Scan Tool?

Curious what everyone uses to do some basic at home scans? There are some basic cables with a CD you plug into your laptop on eBay and a Foxwell scanner handheld unit for $139. Don't need anything fancy but need something that can read my German vehicles.

Thanks.

I have the Schwaben tool from ECS Tuning, which is a Foxwell NT510 with the BMW-specific software pre-installed. It's not perfect, but it's pretty good for my usage. I'm sure there are computer-based options that are more comprehensive, but as a tool straight out of the box, this one isn't bad.

This one will read codes, reset the CEL, and show readiness monitors. Been flawless for me for a few years that I've owned it.

Also have and like the Foxwell NT510. It reads BMW specific codes, can reset adaptations, register a new battery and more. I don't think it can do the all the features coding that Carly can do. You can also add other vehicle mfgrs for something like $60.

The only minor drawback is that applying updates to the card can be a little fiddly.

Carly. It can code out stuff like the annoying door chime as well.
