I was actually thinking of putting both cars on my doulbe trailer and taking them to VIR on 11-15 for a day on the Grand course. Could be fun. Two stock, $40k something cars. |

I haven't fully read the report yet, it's something like 30 pages, but it seems they short listed a top five and then rated them thus:
GT3 McLaren 1M Cayman R Elise Club Racer |

Guess all of the reports of the McLaren Air-Conditioner being not fun to drive were a bit baseless then?

458 >>>>> MP4-12C
And I think the C63 Coupe would place pretty high.

It s just perfect the 1M has done so well.
Why? Because BMW headquarters had come a long way to approve this car. They thought there was no business case for a 1 series M car. All the reviews and cars sold tell otherwise. Wide wheel arches. Bulldog stance, small wheelbase, agile handling, LSD and a good engine for a reasonable price is a package which suits M drivers enthusiasts. A car M needed since the E46 M3. |

It was there, full list of contenders is:
BMW M5 McLaren MP4-12C BMW 1M Lotus Elise Club Racer Renault Megane 265 Trophy Lamborghini Aventador Porsche Cayman R Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe Jaguar XKR-S Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 Lamborghini Gallardo Performante Aston Martin Vantage S Ferrari FF Summing up, these were some of the quotes on the 1M: "The antithesis of so many other cars here because it has no paddle shift, no louder exhaust, no settings menu. You get in, you drive it" "It's not the last word in sophistication but it's just so bloody loveable" "A bubbling keg of driving fun: best BMW in yonks" |

I think they pick cars introduced this year - that is why the 458 is not in it and the FF is. The 458 would have definitely been ahead of the Mp4-12c. I think this is the "tweaked" version of the MP4-12C, meaning that Evo magazine made some specific suggestions to Mclaren to make it what it should have been in the first place. I think Evo had an obligation to rank it higher than where it should have been. The great thing about the 1M, Cayman R, Elise, and cars in that price range is that quite a number of people will actually get to drive them and have an opinion. The FF, 4.0 RS, MP4-12C very few people will really know how good they really are.

I find it absolutely amazing that the engine in the 1M - the N54 - is the EXACT same engine found in your 'garden variety' 135,335,Z4 etc & is being compared to the likes of Porsche and Ferrari.
Basically anyone with a 135i, a tune and suspension mods should be proud that they come close to the 1M's position! |

I think it's better to extend couple more days for the group buy. Seem like most people are waiting for better quality pictures or wait for more to jump in.
