Thanks for sharing! That's a tough class huh? I wonder if it will fare well? I imagine it will be a monster on race rubber...

Well, there are many classes a car can run in SCCA Club Racing.

I would think that a popular choice for the 1M would be Touring 2 (T2) once it is classed. This is a very close-to-stock racing class with good competition, including E92 M3, E46 M3, E92 335i.

I think it will fare better than my e46 M3 which was a better track car. Size on a tight course was the problem with the M3. The M3 was exciting but not always effective.

I had a 1997 e36 M3 with a Quaiffe LDS + regearing and it was wonderful. I also had a very modified 1994 325is also with a Quaiffe + regearing that did quite well.

Can't wait to see how it (and my beginner driving skills) do against the well established ranks at SCCA events. Also I am pretty sure BMWCCA AutoX will be a blast, but I think it will be in a super tough class here in Houston! Oh man I still have to wait 5 weeks to pick it up and then another 6-8 for it to get here... In the mean time I just got a 325 assembly for my e30. Hopefully I'll get that in there in the next couple of weeks and have something to play with until then.

If you have the time and resources find yourself a driving school, even if it's for 1 day it will be well worth it, not to mention you don't want to "practice" with your new car. If you are planning on entering sanctioned events you'll most likely need your SCCA license anyway. http://www.scca.org/contentpage.aspx?content=38
Enjoy!!

Autocrossing (ie SoloII) doesn' t require a license. You don't risk your DD. That's the beauty in it . Though I must admit one time I spun the e46 and went backwards toward a curb & tree. Not a good feeling. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/image...nfused0068.gif

Oh Holly! I've heard about accidents at AutoX but haven't done it long enough to have/see one myself...

I've done a couple of two day DEs, been out to the track for a few open track days, and won first place in "B" class in BMWCCA AutoX Houston Region last year with my 1991 318i! However, I still consider myself a beginner... I've already gone through two lower oil pans on my m42. Definitely don't want to go through anything but brake pads and tires on the 1m!

I will check out the SCCA path to getting licensed...

as holly mentioned, a license is not needed for autocross

Usually accidents happen when folk get scared and lift and spin or fail to shut it down when things go amiss. Like in drivers schools its both feet in.I've been autoxing since '92 and track schools since '95. Autoxing is much more affordable so I can do it more often. Also if you do something stupid the stakes are much lower.
