CHP

Years ago I had a CHP cycle cop pull me over on I5. After issueing the ticket, he said let me tell you how to drive fast on CA interstates.
1. Stay out of the #1 lane (fast lane).
2. Don't be the fastest car on the road.
3. Don't draw attention to yourself by weaving in and out of lanes
4. finally, find your self a "rabbit" someone going a lot faster than you, and then settle down to a good pace.
He said they look for the fastest car as that's the best ticket.
I'm sure these hints apply to most states.

Welcome to America. We don't tax the wealthy, so on top of taxing the poor, we have our police collect supplemental tax dollars by instituting ticketing quotas and relying on them for funding. Cops gotta afford those Mustangs and Chargers somehow, after all.

Calling cops vulgar names because they actually catch you speeding reveals much more about the name caller than the ticket issuer. The percentage of cops that are fools is no worse than the general population, or BMW owners, for that matter. (I actually know one cop that has a wife that drives a nice 128i convertible). I know too many good cops to not call out idiots referring to all cops as vulgar names.

As far as what to do when you get caught....1)Be nice to the cop and plead for a warning instead of a ticket, or 2) Go to the court, don't say anything bad about the cop, and plead for a reduction to a warning based on on your great driving record. If you don't have a great driving record, then look in the mirror and figure some stuff out. It's you, not them.

Some should get the ticket: Tailgating at 70MPH, Changing lanes with little space, no signal in heavy traffic, running stoplights, texting while driving ..........To many real bad people out there to worry about name calling any police officer. Good and bad people in every profession. Go to court if you feel your in the right and fight it.

Thanks for all the comments guys. As I mentioned before, I plan to contest this as I was just going along the flow of the traffic during that time. I was probably clocked in (if ever I was) when I changed lane. I don't have any driving record at all what so ever and I will not admit nor deny the officer's allegation. I plan to tell the judge the I was probably too busy breaking my neck to make sure that my blind spot is clear before I change lane, and if ever that was my mistake instead of sticking my eyes to the speedometer then I would whole heartedly accept whatever is hopefully a lessend consequence.

I've missed the point of this thread.

If you exceed posted 65, then don't whine about a ticket.

There's been zillions of times in all my cars and motorcycles that I should've got a ticket, but didn't.

Good for you that you don't have a ticket. All I'm saying here is that there's a lot of people out there that are driving a lot less carefull than me who's just driving within the flow of the traffic and yet they don't get ticketed.

If you were in fact going over the posted limit, there's rarely a compelling reason to contest the ticket. Either hire an attorney to wrangle it away through the system or plea for an alternative method of paying for the ticket while keeping your record/points intact.

Stating that you were going freeway speeds/traffic flow speeds over the limit would be a colossal waste of your time in most administrative/court proceedings as it confirms the reason for the ticket.

These are the exact reasons why I've been ticket-free during all my years of driving. Not drawing attention to yourself is the biggest one.
