Jason, thanks for the information: much appreciated.
So it looks like not much is standard on the 335, beyond the usual sports suspension. Btw, what is option 620? IDrive? So basically, the 335 coupe offers the turbo engine, the new body style, and sports suspension as standard. If they think they are going to get an extra 4-5K from me for that, they can kiss my ass. |

Given that new body styles are inevitable, and the coupe has always offered the sports suspension, the only thing that really is extra (besides the "exclusive" interior, and the "upscale" materials), is the new engine. 4-5K for 45 hp? Hmmmm.

But this thing will still sell like crazy. It looks amazing, and the performance will undoubtedly be phenomenal. While the E46 M3 stops production, and there is an M3 hiatus, dealers will probably market this as an "economical" M3, until the real E90 M3 comes out later on. And given that the thing has more torque than the E46 M3, dealers will probably be successful at selling this thing at 42K. I think I'm going to wait and see what happens to the sedan (325-330-335 lineup, or 328-335 lineup). If the former happens, then the sedan 335 will command a premium as well. It's unclear to me what would happen to the price of the sedan if the latter happens. Man, if they think that adding a couple of $2 lights under the window sill, and offering a different color option for the leather makes the coupe "upscale" then I don't know what kind of crack they are smoking. For one thing, even the 5-series does not come standard with leather, so it's definitely too much to expect for a 3er. But if you are dropping 42K base on a car, the damn thing should at least have leather as standard. |

I wonder if telephone prep is just that: prep. Do you still need to get BMW Assist (or the premium package) to get Bluetooth? Or does "prep" mean that Bluetooth is standard in both cars?

thanks, some questions:-
1. any photo of platinium bronze body color of the E92? 2. Will the more aggreesive hood be used on E90? 3. Will the tail lamp be used on E90? (i think not too) 4. Which photos shows Style 197 (328i) Style 189 (335i) rims? 5. What is Shifter Paddles(335i) , are they meant same as steering wheels gearshift buttons? 6. it looks like the 328i will be priced the same as 330i (37k) but less power; and the 335i seems to be somewhere over 45k. Is this the latest prediction of pricing? 7. I heard that Sedan 330i will cease production in July 2006; but there seems to be no news that a 335i Sedan will be manufactured in June for Sep 2006 retail sale? 8. I didnot quite support the prediction of point 7 above, as if 328i sedan has only 230hp, that is bad because it will force sedan buyer to go straight to 300hp Turbo. This means BMW will lose one portion of the power variant i.e. 330i's 268hp. Thus, I think 330i sedan will continue. 9. And, fInally, if a 328i sedan has 230hp, that is somewhat confusing as whether the Asia and UK's 2.5 litre 325i (218hp) will cease?

Oh another thing that's been debated: Comfort access is not standard. They're really moving this upscale based on the looks and the engine. Not on standard features.
Of course, all this talk about moving it upscale is coming from the reports of the British prices. It's possible that even despite the % increase from the E46 330Ci, the US price increase might be lower (even % wise), to keep the car priced competitively with the G35 coupe. The 328 coupe is coming in at 230 hp. the 335 at 300 hp. The 328 will not be able to match the current G35 (in acceleration, not handling, of course, but the average American buyer looks at hp). The 335 will probably demolish the G35, but at 42K base, it is WAY higher. Adding the options that allow an equalably comparison (isn't leather and bluetooth etc standard on the G35?), would probably take the 335 price upto 44K. So a 10K difference between the 335 and the G35, it's nearest competitor. Unless BMW is aiming for the Merc CLK and doesn't care about the Infinity. That would be a stupid move. Not because the Merc is so good or anything (it probably isn't, but I dont know much about Mercs), but because Infinity will take a good proportion of BMWs sales for people who dont want to spend more than 40K, which is the "entry-level" luxury limit. Then again, you can argue that people spending 39K can spend an additional 5K, to take it to 44K. I've played that game all the way to cars that cost more than my annual salary (in my head of course). |

BMW normally prices the coupes $1000US over the equivalent sedans. Since this is a 328 which fits almost directly between the 325 and 330 the price would have to be above the 325 but below the 330. So, add $1K to the 325 and 330 sedans to get the equivalent coupe prices. Then split the difference to get the equivalent of a 328 coupe. 30900 (325 sedan) + $1K = $31900 (equiv. 325 coupe if they made an e92) + 36600 (330 sedan) + $1K = $37600 (equiv. 330 coupe if they made an e92) = $69500/2 (split the difference between 325 and 330 coupes if they existed) = $34,750 for the e92 328 coupe. Another argument can be made that the 325 and 330 e92 sedans were only about $1000 over the e46 325 and 330 sedans. And when the e46 got the engine upgrade from 323 to 325 and 328 to 330 in 2000 there was about a $500 bump in price. So an e46 325Ci for $32,300 + $500 bump for new engine & badging + $1000 for e46 to e92 = $33,800. My guess is right in the middle at $34,275 for the 328i e92. I just realized this 328 price works well with my other guesses for the last several months on the 335 price. Add $5K for the turbo 335 and you get near my other price guess for the 335i of just under $40K base price. |
