Just installed the oem black grills on my car using the tug/pull method.
Problem is it looked like it did some (minor) damage to the clip holders on the car bumper and when I popped them back in they didn't fit as tightly as the originals. Is this normal? |

Just installed mine, didn't have a right angle tool, so I just took a flat-head screwdriver and wedged it inbetween the center tab and the surrounding plastic on the two bottom clips, and rotated the screwdriver to lever the tab up. The top 3 clips were cake.
Thanks for the guide! |

This is just like on my 3 series LCI, grabbed ahold of the grill with even pressure and pulled outward and viola!

Great DIY and thank you! It'll help a lot of people out who want to smoke it.

I recently replaced mine with no tools. It took about 4 minutes from start to finish. The plastic is strong and flexible, so it was easy to maneuver the old ones out of the clip sockets.
By the way, if you're wondering if the black grilles look good on the black sapphire metallic paint, they do! They look better than expected. I was hesitant, but now have no regrets. Edited to add photo. Last edited by woo1; 06-11-2012 at 02:39 PM.. |

Nice write up. I just changed mine out in less than 10 minutes with just a flathead screwdriver and light force..

Yes, easy to separate the grills from the chromed outer part - just carefully pry all the plastic clips apart and the two parts will slide apart.

Just did this with the bmw glossy grills in 2 minutes start to finish and it matches the side trim perfectly. Both hands through the slats, pull with a slight angle down for top clips and finish pulling with slight angle up for bottom clips.
