Final Quote for repair has been brought down to ~$5500. Thinking of just swallowing the cost
Ya thats not there choice, you are perfectly allowed to call BMW USA directly.

And if it was me if that didn't work I'd be having my lawyer call them, no reason it should be part of the extended warranty.

It makes sense to pay out of pocket so you can get your car back in running condition. However, you can still go after BMW for reimbursement. It's a large sum of money. I would consider putting up more of a fight. You haven't even spoken to corporate yet.

I would also get as much documentation on the problem as possible.

Attorney fees + time investment... that's a lot of trouble for $5k.

Emailed BMW Customer Relations. waiting to hear back

Tracking the car isn't abuse, that's hilarious. And I'm still pretty sure the turbos are exactly the same as the regular N54.

Don't email them, for God's sake, CALL them. It's much easier for people to deny you over email than over the phone especially if you have any kind of verbal skills.

Is there a direct contact phone number to their Warranty Department? I was only able to find an email address. Either way, I assumed it'll take more than a phone representative to authorize this.. so I kept the email very formal.

I don't have contact information for you but unless you sent the email DIRECTLY to someone higher up who do you think the email's going to go to? Some lackey who doesn't care, and they're hardly going to forward it to someone important. You should call, and go up the chain of command until you get someone who will listen AND has the power necessary to get the ball rolling. It's dead easy to ignore an email or just say no, it's basically impossible to tell someone they can't talk to your boss until you get up to the very tip of the company.

My turbos failed at approximately 36k miles and the car was just 2 months out of warranty at the time. However BMW UK gave me 100% goodwill and replaced the turbos at no cost to me.

Yeah, the McClaren gave it away....we're in different tax brackets!

I think this turbo thing will impact a lot of us. If you decide to get an attorney, maybe we can do a fundme thing and all pitch in some toward attorney fees. At least the basic attorney letter and a couple of follow ups.

Just a crazy thought for the day. Please let us know how it turns out, I have a feeling we might be in the same boat too.

They might not do that today after England beat Germany!

USA beat them last year, so we're probably screwed but we should band together with the OP is possible.

Great, I hate to beat a dead horse but just keep in mind the magic formula: someone tells you "no", politely INSIST to speak to their boss until they give up and put you through. People will make excuses and tell you it can't be done, you need to be persistent and not believe anything they tell you or take no for an answer. With luck you'll work your way up the chain and get someone smart AND powerful enough to realize your issue is bullshit and help you out.

Show them this page/link, which originates from the BMW parts database and contradicts their statement. (this example is for the turbo on the front bank, the rear bank has the same parts cross-reference)

Looking forward to where this goes. I, too, thought it was very strange that BMW chose not to explicitly include the N54-T (1M, 335is, Z4 35is) on their turbo extended warranty document. Please keep us updated on this.

As for the injectors, how did you convince them to cover that? Was the car under the usual 4 years/50k miles warranty at the time of that repair?

No, the car was out of warranty. The fuel injectors had extended warranty on them by BMW so they corrected their charge

You really need to find an independent shop that specializes in BMW. Both my cars are out of warranty and the only time they'll be at the dealer is for recall work.

Surprised they covered it based on the again noticeable absence of 335is / Z3sDrive35is / 1M ... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1209808

For the injectors reimbursement, go to the BMW-RP website. My 1M VIN is included.

I plugged mine in and got the same result. At first I thought it was just a generic page that would come up regardless of the VIN entered but I tried a few sham VINs and the result was different vs. a legit 1M VIN. So, maybe there's hope?

Just saw a used turbo (from the AR wrecked 1M) for $250 on eBay. If you're willing or do the work yourself, that seems like a steal.

Just got the car back.

Total cost after tax was $6,923.68 USD

Tech comments were as follows:
"Faulty turbos. Interrogated fault memory found over and under boost faults. Inspected found turbo charger wastegate sticking. Removed and replaced both exhaust turbo chargers with wastegate. Normal operation found after."

I was contacted by a BMW NA rep via phone following my emails, and now I am waiting to hear back regarding my request for honoring an out-of-warranty service of the turbos.
