Got pulled over going 100 mph!
Last Thursday, I was on my way to some early morning training when I got stuck behind some REALLY slow traffic. When I finally reached my turn, my favorite stretch of road was completely empty! Partially out of joy for the open road, and partially out of joy for getting away from slow traffic, I floored it as it went from 0 - 100 in a matter of seconds (speed limit was 35 mph). I let up right as I hit 100 to slow down and there he was . . . Mr. Policeman sitting there with his radar gun
As I flew past him, my first instinct was to make a sharp right turn into the upcoming neighborhood (which was over an upcoming hill so he'd never see me) and drive through the twisty turns and out the other side. But then my second instinct kicked in (which was the right one). I pulled over . . . The cop came up and asked for my licence and registration. All he said then was "06' BMW huh?" I said "yes." I then gave him my info, knowing I was in trouble. He then went back to his car for what felt like eternity. When he approached my car for the second time, my heart was racing and I began sweating. As he handed me my license, he told me I was clocked going 49 mph. What? I was estatic and confused. Then he had me sign the ticket which was only 70 bucks! I told him thank you and he told me to drive safely and have a nice day! Awesome! I've been driving like a granny for the last 4 days (I know it won't last). Everyone deserves a break once and a while. |

What do you do when you see a spaceman?

100 in a 35 is no longer ticket time. At that far above the speed limit, they stop calling it speeding and start calling it wreckless driving.
If the officer in question were not in such a good mood that day you'd be posting about how much it sucks to be thrown in the back of a squad car. |

Not trying to run, and just accepting what he was going to hand you without whining or sorry-as-sed excuses probably made the difference.
These cars do 100+ easy, and is sure feels good! More stable and controllable than a stock Civic at 70. |

One time my cousin was driving from LA to SF via Highway 5, got pulled over with a speeding tix for driving at 107mph(at a 70mph limit). She paid over $400 for the tix, and 2 months later, got her notice of license suspension.

i think if you just concede and pull over like that you are more likely to get away with a lesser fine. i did a similar thing in my tsx after i got it. i knew i was caught so i just pulled over, before the cop even got his lights on. got off fairly easy
i also think a lot of police are car enthusiasts, so every once in a while you catch a cool one and they realize the difference between taking advantage of an open road and wreckless driving. i 2nd the vanlentine1 recommendation a little insurance never hurts |

I once got a whole slew of similar tickets very similar to that one ...in one night (Don't ask). The attorney got the case adjourned for almost a year, then when they saw that my record had stayed clean, they let me off with a $200 fine & no points. |

Got clocked doing 49mph? Didn't know the BMW speedometers overstate your speed that much

my last car was a 1998 stock civic dx hatchback, 5 speed. I got it up to 100mph like 5 times, but only for a few seconds. it was an event! shift into third at around 65-70, floor it, maybe shift to fourth around 90 (100mph in 3rd hit the redline in the DX), then wait as it eases up to 100 in 4th. The car's top speed was probably not far over 100 (107mph I think C&D once discovered.) It loved to cruise all day at 65-70. Above 80 or so you were really working. I look forward to my E90...one of the reasons I bought it was its great ability at speed. If it can go 155, then 85-90 should be VERY safe and secure. BTW 85mph on Chicago area freeways is driving with traffic.

damn, be careful man and you should really get a radar detector as well. A V1 or an Escort 8500 is all you need

Got off lucky, big time.
Anytime I even get to 90 on an open stretch of highway, I go "oh shit" and hit the brakes ASAP.

i don't condone speeding, but i feel the emphasis should be on catching speedsters near schools and built up areas. they should not be cashing in on average drivers on empty expressways with good road conditions, going 20mph or 30mph over the limit. I strongly feel that traffic fines should also NOT be used to buy more cameras and should not be siphoned to police force funds.
