118D Cabriolet, opening windows with key fob also opens roof slightly?

Hi everyone,

In short: 1-series convertible key fob doesn't open only windows when long pressing unlock but also opens the convertible roof slightly?

I recently bought a 2012 BMW 118D Cabriolet. Nice car, but one annoyance. The key fob can be used to open the windows by long pressing unlock. It can also be used to open the canvas roof by pressing the unlock even way longer. Here's the annoying part: If I press the unlock key only slightly long and remove my finger, it's supposed to only open the windows but apparently the roof opens also even so slightly: I get the "canvas roof open" warning in the drive computer if attempting to drive after opening the windows with the key fob. Then I have to press the roof close button to make the warning go away.

Does anyone know can anything be done about this? I'd imagine you're supposed to be able to open the windows without cracking the roof as well. Am I using the key fob wrong somehow?

Sounds like it's getting confused somewhere... Are you holding it long enough for the windows to go down all the way or just a crack?

I should have mentioned - in my 2013 with comfort access, if I use the key to open the windows all the way, the sunroof will then open next. So I usually just use it to crack the windows since it's nearly impossible to time this right, unless I want everything open.

That sounds like a likely explanation, though I could swear I've been releasing the button when the windows are not completely open yet. I'll have to try and see what happens if I do a very short long press..

Just try getting them down an 1/8th or so of the way, just a few inches, that should not cause the roof to react at all.
