Not my place to give details, and Justin will be in here soon enough. All I can say is that Justin/Advan achieved all he had planned, which was really quite amazing given the time frame they were working to and the difficulty getting some parts.

I heard they are pulling your leg.....nothing more than a few stickers and some fancy valve stem caps with built in LED lights, maybe even some colour changing under-car neon lights and a motec exhaust!

However I have been MIA from the forum for far too long. I am keen to get back online and provide a very much overdue update, as to what has been happening at Advan Performance, within the land of BMW. Hey Kenny, given the VERY limited prep time the guys at Advan had prior to the "Hot Tuner Shootout", the boys did a SUPER JOB. As such terrible track conditions not withstanding, the little 1'er performed admirably to say the least. I will provide more details shortly. Hmmm, how does 332.8 rwkw at 17.5 psi of boost sound? I do not believe the stock OE turbos are capable of that. However I suspect these are conservative numbers, for "upped" Rob Beck turbos. Yes, I know, what a f...en tease. Cheers, JD. That's impressive Justin. 332kw is very nice, agreed it would be tuned on the conservative side. Any plans to upgrade the transmission? I'm seeing a few guys are having issues with the extra power. Keep up the good work mate

Yes, that is conservative. We were treading carefully due to the fact that it was to be attending the hot tuner challenge to be threashed around a track for several laps, and we did not want any embarassing mishaps when the car had majjor work done only days before the shootout. I am sure we can lean on it now that we have some confidence in the setup and push another 20-30kW out of it.

That's awesome Adrian. I think you did the right decision in playing it safe, 332kw is plenty of power anyway. I'm sure you can squeeze another 20-30kw out of it and I look forward to seeing what you can do. Is the 332kw on 98 pump fuel?

A car doing donuts on street radials. Says it all about your average Motor magazine reader really.

The challenge was sponsored by BP I believe. Test fuel was 98. Car was provided with no more than quarter tank and they then filled it with BP 98. We played conservative and did not push past 17.5 psi with conservative timing and Afr. With little time to test we did not want an embarrassing failure with multiple lap dash on a horsepower track like eastern creek.

Results are not yet released so we do not know. We were able to overhear and view some results and I know we did well on the motorkhana and dyno. We lucked out on track and got probably the wettest session (standing water on track), so our lap times were no good, but I think they decided not to include lap times because of variable weather, so any track result will be subjective of the driver in poor track conditions. Quarter mile I think was OK, but not great. We were running tyres suited to track work at high temps, and they ran the quarter mile from cold tyres on the main circuit straight. We thought they would be using the drag strip with a burnout to get some tyre temp, but the drag strip was shut down for track works. Our tyre choice was made to maximise the laptime benefit as we thought they would be OK for drags, great for circuit, and OK for khana (and fine for dyno). Unfortunately the weather meant our tyre choice was not the best, and good wet weather tyres would have been best for us. Of course we were not unique in this situation, so I think we will do OK... but some scored much better than us in this regard.
So, we think we probably did OK, but will not know until the results are released. Much of it is subjective, so we may have gotten some good numbers, but it can come down to what the driver thinks of it also. |
