Talking VSRF DPs Installed!

Got my VSRF downpipes installed yesterday evening with a friend of mine (xShadows on here).

Well it was a pain in the ass lol. We used a pair of ramps, four jack stands, and two jacks to get the car where it needed to be, which in itself took like 45 minutes

The install itself wouldn't have been so bad if we had moved the steering column to begin with. We tried to do it without taking it out and it was a nightmare. In hindsight though, it was worth saving a $300 installation fee doing it ourselves. Anyways, we finally buttoned everything up, and took it out for a drive.

The difference is freaking mind-boggling. The turbos spool instantaneously, the sound is exotic and intoxicating. I was initially worried that the sound would be too much, but it actually ended up being perfect. Throttle response is scary now, and the car feels even more amounts of stupid fast. One of the best performance mods I've done, up there with the JB4!

Price: $320 shipped. Can't beat that price.
Quality: Welds are smooth, everything fit nicely, bolts seemed high quality.
Gains: Butt dyno is reading off the chart! I'll dyno it soon though to see what they actually are.
Score: 10/10

sorry about the lack of install pictures

Congrats, I yearn for downpipes so i can go FBO, but ive worked out a warranty truce with my dealer and I dont want to push my luck. I have been very impressed with VRSF from a quality standpoint, my friend has an e9x with their downpipes and i have their intercooler....well made stuff.

The install would have taken about half the time had there been 2 inches more worth of room around everything. Love my 135i, but damn is there no room under there for downpipes. >.<

Haha truth man. At least when we do your downpipes we know exactly what to do and what to expect.

Damn I had misfire issues myself. Theyre a pain. I ended up swapping my coils to see if the issue was the plugs or coils, and the misfire went away, so IDK what the real problem is lol

Tremendously loud on cold starts, as expected, but sounds perfect during daily use. Absolutely orgasmic at WOT. Nailed it with this set-up!

are you still rocking N54 mids? Catless to aftermarket mids+Berk race must be crazy loud at cold start...I have stock DPs and I feel bad for the neighbors when I start the car in the AM.

I know the gains wouldn't be as great, but I'm considering Daddy's mid and axle back system just to get rid of the mid cat, but still be "street legal". Kind of afraid all that coupled with catless downpipes would be insanely loud!

Gains from removing the secondary cats in the mids are very minimal. I'll stick with my stock N54 mids, and then I might maaaaybe consider moving to some resonated aftermarket ones later down the road. Any louder than my current setup would cross the line into obnoxious.

Really looking forward to installing these, the should arrive tomorrow! I'm still curious to hear how they sound with stock exhaust and midpipes... Does anyone have more input? Sound clips? I've only heard one sound clip with everything else stock (335i). Last week a read a review saying that it sounded horrible at WOT. But for the most part I've heard positive reviews.

All depends on your exhaust set-up. I'm not sure how catless DPs + stock mids/axelback would sound. I love my current set-up, while some people may say its too loud. Alot of personal preference is involved. I will say that I don't have any drone, and it positively rips at WOT.

I have the VRSF catless DPs with the Dinan Exhaust. My only compliant is how loud it is on a cold start up, but once it warms up it the noise is pretty much perfect.

See this is what worries me about DPs, i'm concerned with the aftermarket mids and meisterschaft muffler my car would be downright obnoxious...I have a high tolerance to volume, but i'm driving a 1 series not a test piped Carrera GT.

Thanks for the feedback. Having a louder start up won't really bother me, I just prefer to keep the stealth/sleeper sound to the car. A slightly deeper exhaust note and being able to hear the turbos more is exactly what I'm looking for! I'll be sure to post a video once I get them installed.

This thread makes me want a downpipe now more than ever. Can you upload some audio OP? I'd love to hear that beast!
