Oil filter.

So I was leaving for deployment last year and I just remembered I changed the oil before I put the car In storage. Long story short the local shop only had a fram oil filter so I used that and parked the car. Didn't really drive if. My question is I want to replace it with a bmw one because I feel the other one did feel It was rather tight like I had to force it almost. Has my worried to run It when I come back and at the track. With the way our filter is setup can I just change filters without draining the oil?

To be clear, you are saying it has been a year since your last oil change?

If so, you need to change the oil again either way, regardless of milaege.

I've never heard or seen anything good about Fram filters, I would change it immediately. Plus like The Stig said, change the oil every year or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first.

I personally like to only use BMW oil filters so i know the quality control is there. I've seen fram filters with giant gaps between ribs and tears in them fresh out of the box.

Yup the new oil change has about 7 miles on it and I parked the car with the ebrake down and in first gear with a car cover on. I deployed. I winterized it aswell. I was just asking about the filter.

I've heard Fram oil filters don't use the best media paper.

I understand that ^ this is why I want to replace it before I start driving it again when I come home next month. It was just something I threw on there before I left And that's all they had in stock at the time. I wanted the car to have fresh oil sitting it instead of the oil burned up stuff from all my track days over the span of the 9 months I been gone.

If the oil has been in the car for a year i'd change it regardless of miles on it along with the filter.

To answer your question. Yes you can just change out the filter. I only use factory or Mann filters. As others have stated if the car has been stored for an extended time then another oil change is in order.
