Auto Dimming

Is there a way to turn off the auto dimming feature of the rear view mirror?

With my tinted windows the night time view to the rear is a bit darker than I would like?

Thanks

My Vette had one also, thus the reason for the question.

Acura has a button too. BMW doesn't. You will have to find older BMW mirror without the feature to replace it.

The sensor is light based, if you back window is tinted then your rearview mirror shouldnt tint as much anyway. You may want to just try holding a non tinted mirror and see if thats ok. Because it sounds like your tint is wayy to dark on its own.

With a 30% tint 70% of the light is blocked and I feel adding on the auto mirror reduces light more than I want.

It sure would be nice if BMW gave us the option to turn it off when we wanted to. Oh well its a small problem I can live with.

Are you saying the mirror darkens dependent upon the amount of light hitting it? I thought it was all or none.

^ thats a good question. The auto-dim I had in my Nissan Titan was dimmed or not dimmed, no in-between...

Here's a thought.... Pull the fuse? It might effect other items though. In my e46 I have removed that panel by the map lights and hard-wired my radar detector into the optional homelink system. I'm not familiar enough with the 1er to know if they still have that access panel there, if they do, I bet your connection is inside. Open it up, and unplug it, again, if it wont effect anything else...

I will check out the panel this weekend. Good idea. I hope it is a seperate connector and will not disconnect everything else.

Good Luck! Does your mirror have a compass or lights or homelink in/on it? My concern is that if it does, then you'll loose those functions as well...

Let us know if it works!
