Measured tire clearances today

After spending the morning removing wheels and playing with measurements my finding are as follows

My car is lowered 1.25” with a about 2 degrees of camber front and rear.

Rear: There is about 1.5” of clearance on the suspension side. .8” to the fender (depending on measurement points)

Front: No more than .4” of clearance on the suspension side. All additional tire will have to go on the fender side.

IMO the max tire/wheel you will get on a 135i is

Rear: 275/35/R18 on an 18x10 offset 55 – 60 mm (Limited by wheel offset)

Front: 245/35/R18 on an 18x8 offset 32mm

Please note different tires in the same size might be different widths. This is only a guideline on tire fitments.

rears sound about right but not the front. I'm running a 17X8.5 with a 38et 245/40/17 and have a good .25-.375 to the strut. had it to the track with no rubbing at all. also because of the angle of the strut as you go larger in rim diameter you'll gain some strut clearance. IMO 32et would stick way to far out and for average street use I think a 18X8 with a 40et 225/40/18 would be perfect in the front. and max before getting -2 -3 camber would be 18X8.5 with 40et and 245/35/18. with -3+ degrees camber I think a 18X9 with a 35et and 255/35/18 would work well.

BMWeber (or anyone): How do you think these would fit on the 1 (stock suspension not lowered):

F: 18x8.5" +40mm w/ 235/40-18
R: 18x9.5" +45mm w/ 255/35-18

front should be fine. the rears I've only tried a 9" 45et rear with a 255 and that was fine.

has anyone else tried a 9.5" rear?

Hi,

Any thoughts on this setup if i go with the breyton gtsr 18*8.5 all around and 235*40 Eagle f1 all season all around, will i encounter any rubbing at the front or back? My main aim is to reduce the understeer and rotate the tires later with the non staggered setup. I am planning to lower the car slightly with a set of KW v2's. I am noobie to offsets.

Thanks

you'll need about an 8mm spacer in the front. this is a combination I have been thinking about also.

Those hubcentric extenders do not fit our cars. TMS doesn't have any that do, unfortunately. I bought a set of them, and no go (expensive bastiges too). I would definitely never put a 8mm spacer on my car that did not have any sort of hubcentric extension on it.

Your best hope is that a 10mm spacer with built in hubcentric extender will allow the wheel to not rub the fender. I'm talking about the H&R or Rogue style spacers.

Not good. They require a fairly high offset. So, unless you want to make a widebody kit, those 4" deep lip wheels aren't going to come close to working on this car.

Thank you - I am planning on ordering wheels next month (after the wedding). Looks like I need to check my math again.

Hi,

BMWeber, could you guess then if my plan would work OK (135i):

wheels: 4xO.Z. Crono HT (18" x 8", 40mm offset)
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...All&sort=Brand

tires: 4xMichelin Pilot Sport PS2 (245/35)
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.j...irePageLocQty=

I know that 245s are considered wide for an 8" wheel, however, the spec sheet appears to suggest that they *can* be mounted that way. Thoughts? Suggestions? I'm looking for a non-staggered build.

Thank you in advance!

BMWeber can offer his thoughts also, but that setup should fit with 'zero' issues--no worries--imo.

that setup should be good. 2mm closer to the strut than my setup but I have about 6-8mm of clearance.
