Not Disappointed anymore :)

I went to my dealer yesterday to get the latest CIP software update and when I returned home I found that none of my MP3 CDs does not work. I went back to the dealer this morning and asked them about and no one in the service department knew about it (even though when i made the appointment, the guy knew about it)

I told them that I have spoken to people same situation as me that has gotten their cars fixed. So I sent them an e-mail with the bulletin board
http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/bulletins/...p/B653005g.htm

Is this the best way to approach this? Any E90 owners out there in Northern NJ got their MP3 issue fixed? I would like to knew which dealer so I can confirm that this is avalaible and free of charge

I know that most of us here know much more then our dealers but I just wish people in the service department would take more time to learn about the cars since it's part of their job imo.

Oh well enough ranting and I hope I could get this fixed. I was planning to go away with my car and no MP3 now

Sorry to hear your difficulties. I had my MP3 added by my dealer with no issues in lower NY (Wide World of Cars in Spring Valley just north of the Garden State) I printed out the bulletin and gave it to my SA, he said he had already heard about it and all that but I like to be safe and gave it to him anyways. Just in case you are using iTunes to burn a cd remember the default is AAC not MP3; I forgot this on my first burn and then I realized what I did. Best of luck!

Ive tried to say it as many times as posseble

You must tell your service department to add MP3 via the retrofit menu afer loading CIP20

MP3 is not loaded woth CIP20 automatically, they must add it afterwards via retrofit menu

I am not seeing any problems with my car, I have to ask. Why did you go in for the first update? What was your car doing, do you have navigation?

Actually, I did mention it when I made the appointment about the mp3 fix but did not give them this bulletin figuring they knew about it

PS. My Service Consultant just called after sending the BMWNA bulletin and told me he would take care of it today by lunch time. So I should be good in couple hours

Yes, I do have the navigation but my car was built in 06/06 so I could not play MP3s. Everything else works and now the newest software includes RDS so I'm happy

I think it is always best to describe the symptoms and leave the diagnosis to the shop.

I'm not up to date with code numbers or updates. I thought all e90s would play MP3's, maybe I'm wrong. I don't have navigation though.

Where do I read about codes/numbers/details/fixes or updates I keep reading about? Mine is not doing anything weird, so I guess I don't need anything. What are the details on the CIP or whatever it's called. I guess this is just for cars with navigation or Idrive

Is the link on E90 post for TSB (service bulletins) Cars without iDrive can also have software updates. The reason why so many people with iDrive look for software updates is because if the car was produced before 9/05 it lacked some features other cars had, like the MP3 function, RDS, etc. The software updates also update the engine management software and other things like that! Hope that helps and best of luck

Fleet - is that just for cars with iDrive? Since both my cars have recently been updated I guess I should check the MP3 CD. I understand what you're saying about telling service what they need to do, but I agree with OZ that it is a shame that we have to educate our service departments.

I just got back from the dealer and I can finally play MP3s.

I do like the layout and I am able to see the title and the tags but I am having one problem. If I put random all mode then click next, it goes to the next song on order instead of choosing a random song..Other than that, it works for me

I am going to Buffalo, NY for the week so It should be a little challenging if there is any snow up there..

The Non I-Drive cars were able to play MP3s from the beginning so you should be fine LEDZEP.

My dealer said that I was the first one with a Pre Sept E90 that had the MP3 retrofitted so I'll just believe that. MY SA took care of my problem within 2 hours so I'm pretty satisfied now. If any of you guys plan to get the mp3 update at Paul Miller, just mention me and I'm sure they will remember

With I drive, can one look to to see what version one has? What additional functionality does version 20 deliver?

No you can't check yourself, however if you can find out if your car is a pre-Sept. build, it will need it.
