I know this post is pro-auto.. and I totally get where the auto boys are coming from. It really does sound pretty awesome! But.. this quote right here is why I drive a manual. Ask for a downshift? Say what now?

That aside, great post. Wish drivers here were more enthusiastic.

Hey stef. What he's talking about is the auto's ability to jump 2 gears at once. It's one of the highlights of the auto. Unfortunately it only does it in auto mode... not manual.. even though in manual.. it does jump 2 gears away very quickly.

It nice to drive in DS mode.. floor it... and know you went from 5 to 3 very quickly.

Let me say that I'm an enthusiast, and this is my first automatic car since I was 16 (Ah, the compromises of marriage! :smile

As an enthusiast, I'm just trying to learn all I can about the behavior of different systems so I can most effectively operate the car. Yes, my transmission happens to be an automatic, but that doesn't me I have to turn into a disaffected, John Q. Public car owner who treats his car only like an appliance.

BTW, yes, the kickdown from 5->3 when you floor it in DS is most impressive!

Great color combo. I really wanted Coral red on my AW, but I bought the one that just came at Beverly Hills BMW. And for $41,800 was not bad. I opted for coupe since I have convert in 650. My two favorite toys!! lol

Also for got to mention. I used to be a stick shift driver only too until I got a test for the paddle shifter 135 and 650. My last E46 M3 and 350Z were both manual. I don't really miss them anymore. I knew I wanted sport auto for the 650 and I was shopping for a manual for the 135, but they did not have the color combo in stock that I wanted and I did not want to wait to order like I did on my 650. I just simply fell in love with the 135 on my first test drive and knew I had to have it as my daily car.

Johnny... sorry I'm late on this. CONGRATULATIONS!

Your 'vert is gorgeous!

It makes me re-consider the idea of getting mine with a Steptronic.

... Nah... Not really... LOL.

Anyway, it truly is stunning! A perfect candidate for carbon fiber rear spoiler... like Texas did to his SGM 'vert. Check out his pics.

Hey, c'mon, man... don't leave me hangin'... where's the pic of your GF's leg?

Thanks!!

And you'll be able to see my lady soon. She just finished recording her first album. We are really excited about it!! It's being mastered right now, and she just did a photo shoot for the album cover.
...and since you asked, you'll be required to buy it off itunes when it comes out.

No. For a FWD application, they use a completely different transmission from Aisin:

Thanks. The auto worked pretty well when I test drove a Clubman S but I was hoping the it wasn't the ZF since it didn't seem "great".
