Proper steering position is important. After you pointed it out on another thread, where a 1M was totalled by the owner's friend, Dack, it was all I could look at when watching this crash.

+1.. and proper preparation before hand and knowing the course you are going to take is very important. It seemed like he thought the road was going straight but in actuality it turned slightly to the left.

Yup, driving with the "claw" (single hand at the 12 O'Clock position)as I called it before. While this "kid" drove with both hands... you could see how he was hunched over the wheel and "turned" using his whole upper body/shoulders. A no, NO!! PLUS he was leaning his head and moving quite a bit from turn to turn.

You really want to shuffle the steering wheel. AND when your making a turn(say a right turn), use your right hand to "pull" the steering wheel down while using your left hand as a counter balance. This will make your turns more smoother. The last thing you want to do is use your upper body to control the car/steering wheel.

This video should serve as a PSA as how NOT to drive!

I can see it embedded obviously, but when I click on the youtube button, I have to sign in to see the video because:

"This content may contain material flagged by YouTube's user community that may be inappropriate for some users"

Only inappropriate for the M3 owner, lol!

I've been told when driving fast to keep both hands on the wheel in the same position (3 & 9) then if you need to counter steer you are able to quickly and you know exactly where straight ahead is.

Also his head bouncing around in the crash is a good example of why you should never drive with your window halfway down.

I was under the impression after first watching it yesterday, that he came over the crest of the hill, lost all the weight on his front tires and plowed straight as a result. Now I'm not so sure. There seems to be zero panic reaction from the kid. No frantic steering movements, no slamming on the brakes. I don't get it.

He should've known the steering would go light coming over that little crest at speed...

Sucks, and the kid is an idiot. That said I probably would have done something similar given an e46 m3 when I was that age.

Poor driving posture, doesn't anticipate the wheels going light taking at the crest of a fairly sudden hill at high speeds, no particular counter steering or braking. And to top it off, that's just not a "safe" road to be driving aggressively on if you aren't very competent behind the wheel, it's narrow and blind to the point where you have to hug one lane. Then again at highschool-ish ages I was doing all sorts of nonsense in a Honda Accord, so an E46 would likely have spelled disaster for me as well.

I didn't see any signs that had a relatively sharp sudden left approaching either....or any signs for that matter lol

Is this kid even old enough to drive? What a load of horrible driving...and negative press for BMW.....Give the kid a 10 hp go cart to learn.
