frozen window
Walked out to the car this morning, a balmy 28 degrees, opened the drivers door and the window didn't drop!!! I didn't notice it at first, but when I went to close the door, it bounced back open. I ended up having to hold open the door handle (from the inside) whilst slamming the door closed for it to finally latch. Additionally, the window would not go down at all. After driving a while, the car warmed up and the window began working, when I got to work the door functioned as it should. Anyone else experience this? I'm pissed that my windows would freeze the first time temps drop below freezing...I thought I gave up frozen windows when I got rid of my 17 year old Jetta!

Wow this is a very good point. We need to make sure our windows are not frozen before we open the door. If it is, how can it do that little trick where the glass window drops that 3.43 mm?
Hmmm Maybe a heater in the car with a timer? Any1 know a good aftermarket car heater that can be remotely started? EspressoBoy |

More than likely though it will be a concert DVD. I currently have the Eagles: Live in Melborne in my Caddy for my listening and watching pleasure. PITA to shift to park every light to watch it though, once I drive away the screen goes to the control panel no more Henley. Sorry for the threadjack, back to the window issue!

cold windows
I washed the car back on Saturday, and the passenger window worked fine this morning. What I hate is how the frozen mechanisms made the door bounce back open after slamming into the door striker. I'll be pissed if the window/door striker assembly were damaged from the event!

Frozen window
Any one else enjoy this little surprise on a cold morning? I think the window automatically rolling down a bit whenn you open the door is neat.....but not when it can't because it is frozen shut. And then you cant shut the door!!

This sounds like an issue that bmw should address on these cars-more insulation in the door perhaps? This is already a serious issue for not being able to close the door, but could be even worse if the window cracks when trying to close the door.

I personally like not having the full door frame, I think it looks pretty nice without it. I can't say that I'll experience having frozen anything though.. I live in SoCal and have my car garaged for the winter as well..

more common
Interesting that this is much more common than I first thought. I too was worried about cracking the window. Looking at the door though, when the door 'bounced' back open, it only makes contact at the striker pins- my window didn't seem to ever make contact with the trim or body. This only happened to me the once, which is odd since there have been colder days, and one day it rained all day then dropped to 20deg at night. The morning after that, all was fine. Go figure. I would also be worried about burning up the window motor trying to move it down while the window's frozen...but I would strongly fight for a warranty claim if that were to happen.
Cheers! |
