So I took the safety advice and modifed the jack. I had an aluminum jackpad so instead of cutting the jack down, I made it so I could place the jackpad on top of the mazda jack but still removable. I did it with two round head bolts fitting into two holes I made in the jack top. I cut the ends of the bolts off so the top was still flush. It works! Although the mazda jack handle is way flimsier than I expected. Pics below.

I actually used one of these aluminum scissor jacks to lift my 1er once upon a time. The thing gave out laterally and soon after my hand was smashed in between a jack-stand and subframe. What a time to be alive. You couldn't pay me to use one again.

I have this one from tire rack. it has a removable arm that can be separated into two pieces and it is low-profile as well.
