ESPN pulls Robert Lee from Virginia broadcast...

.....wait for it, because of his name.

I guess ESPN wanted to get in front of this before the Alt+left started protesting at ESPN HQ demanded he change his name.....way to be pro-active ESPN!

Wonder how long it is going to take someone on the forum to defend ESPNs actions?

Yeah, I really see the resemblance which triggered ESPN to make this move. Especially because he does look like someone who would join a white supremacy group.

Its not just ESPN
we have alot of people in this country whose feelings are easily hurt
and lots more who cater to these lil snowflakes to make sure the world is just comfy in those safe places
psychologically its called children
children live in these safe places "under our wing"
but in every culture there is a time which marks "growing up" like a bar mitzvah of sorts.. a milestone where responsibility of some kind is garnered.. seriousness
we just do not have this anymore
we are handing over the country to a generation of spoiled "children"

Thumbs down

I seriously don't believe this is the place or thread or format to discuss "racism, the evil it causes, or try and educate folks about the Civil War and it's true intent". We have a Political section for that.

I debated where to put this, I didn't know whether it was sports or politics....so I just stuck it in "off topic".......

Nearing peak insanity, not there yet but it's coming. The "slave trading" fantasy football draft a couple weeks back was pretty bad too. I think it's great, more and more people will see this crap for exactly what it is. Insane, libby loon nonsense.

Can't tell these days. Half these athletes think they are starting a movement. It would be nice if they just stfu and played ball but no we need to bring politics in sports now.

It's not just politics, I wish all of the public figures (politicians excluded) would just to their job and stop telling everyone how to think.

I'm starting a petition to have Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee removed from office. Having the last name of TWO confederate generals is deeply offensive. In this turbulent political climate I don't feel it is appropriate.

ESPN is awful as is, and is creating drama where there wasn't any to begin with.

NOW, that's not to say it wasn't with good intentions. They did note that they did it because of the recent acts that went on in Charlottesville, they felt some people would get understandably upset if they sent in someone named Robert Lee into Charlottesville right after these events unfolded.

Is it stupid, absolutely, and I really think ESPN is garbage, but I think they had intentions in the right place because...., well...., a large portion of the population is overly sensitive and, per recent destruction of statues of Robert E. Lee...., this probably would have ticked someones clock and made a huge tabloid about it. Instead, we get to read a huge tabloid about ESPN pulling someone they thought would cause more inter-community bullshit.

It's stupid to me they did it, but whatever.

"Understandably" upset? How is it understandable for someone to get upset over a broadcaster doing the job they were slotted to do before anything happened in Charlottesville?

You are going to punish someone based on their name? Was someone going to think the Asian dude was a confederate, racist or nazi? How exactly is anyone getting upset over the totally unrelated guy's name understandable?

edit: Overall I agree with your sentiment but we need to stop making these things "understandable" or giving them any sort of credence.

Understandably in the sense that people are overly sensitive and react poorly to non-issues. Not understandable that their line of thought had any logical sense.

They have no credence or traction in their endeavors as I realize they are wrong in their ways, but I understand that the human mind is severely different from person to person and their beliefs/emotions.

I don't see why that makes you feel that their intentions are in the right place, that just means they were trying to cover their ass. Their loyalty should have been to their employee, knowing that they are not doing anything wrong.

I never condoned their actions, in fact, I said that it's stupid in my personal opinion. I'm speaking in what if's because I can't climb inside the minds of millions of Americans.

Also, their loyalty was to their employee. They collectively agreed on the decision with Robert.

Again, if you can read, I'm not defending anyone's actions, but merely discussing what potentially led them to make the decision they did.

So you're very much not welcome, because no point was proven worth thanking. So unless you have something of value to add to the discussion, go back and play in the M4 threads.

I can read quite well, and I'm not surprised by your statements. Go cry somewhere else, yourself, snowflake.

Well you must clearly be illiterate, because none of what you said was mentioned, nor did I post a crying emoticon?

Snowflake? Quite the vocabulary you have there! Can't say I've never heard that one used before. Very original, and classy

Lastly, I take it you have nothing that has any face value to add to the topic still? I hear you loud and clear buddy.
