To add to this, is someone's (Dinan, BMW, Vishnu) suspension setup going to tighten up the rear without lowering the ride height of the overall car.

In the past Dinan's supensions didn't lower the car more than .5 to .75 inch. Don't know if the 135 version will be similar, or about BMW's Performance suspension other than looking at the tii (if that is even the same they plan on selling).

if BMW Performance offers the same type of gains as they currently do with the 3 series, you guys have to be out of you mind to buy it...

3 hp from an intake and 5 hp from an exhaust.... about as big of gains as Spoon products on an ITR

I'm not as in touch with the e46 tuning scene, but I'm honestly not surprised to see small gains on BMW's N/A engines. I wouldn't discount the quality of the products based on that alone. There are a lot of things you can do with the N54, being turbo, that will see decent gains for relatively "simple" mods. Let's wait and see what BMW can deliver before panning them outright. (My comment above still stands, however.) |

About the same if you discard marketing hyperbole.

It's tough to answer the Dinan vs. BMW Performance question, when neither company has announced anything they are selling. BMW has shown things they will be selling abroad, not here (some with caveats that it specifically will NOT be sold in teh Statets), and Dinan hasn't announced anything, and we're only guessing off of what they offer for the 335i.
BMW might have a leg up on getting things to the market compared to competitors, since they seemingly developed the performance line at the same time the coupe was being developed. Compare this to UUC who took 2 years to create swaybars for the e9X, from the US release date... |

The gains you guys see from an exhaust or intake are probably on par with any company if you don't get your ecu tuned. For those who want to keep warantee, I don't think its a bad idea.

Anecdotally I've heard intakes and cat-back exhaust systems offer very minimal power gains on the N54. The downpipes do offer a decent extra bang though.

On a turbocharged car, petrol or diesel, a remap is always going to give the best bang for buck. Intakes and exhaust will add relatively little, but changing the cats for lower cell density / higher flow units (or removing them!) is a worthwhile exercise.
