I find it funny that the people that have the 323i really want it to come to the US, while the people in the US dont want the 323i. Here is what I think.
I think the coupe will be 328 and 335 only, while the sedan will be 323i, 328i, and 335i. This is somewhat similar to the five series, six series senario. The sedan has comes in 525, 530, and 550 configurations, while the coupe comes in 650i, and 630i in some regions.This would make sense because this way they could keep the sportier, more expensive image of the coupe, while bringing the three series sedan lower in the market, filling the hole for the one series. Everyone says the new 3 series coupe looks very different from the sedan, so maybe the engines will be different also. |

WTF, why don't they just bring in the new model 335 and keep 325 and 330 to make all e90 customers happy? If they downgrade (rebadge?) the 330 to 328 (or 325 to 323), I'd feel hurt to drive the 330 with 328 badge in the rear. Don't you think?

I have a 330i. If they bring over a 335i, I still have a 330i until I buy a 335i. If they bring over a 328i, I will either have a 330i or a 335i. No hurt feelings from me.

They amped the 2.5 l engine several times in the E46 production history. I don't think it ever affected resale of the 'lesser' versions. And I never felt hurt, I was always pleased that BMW was constantly upping the ante. Last thing I want them to do is get stuck in molasses. Direct injection, diesels, bi-turbos, DSL, ceramics, ... Bring it on!

I really doubt it. If they put the 323i (rebaged 325i) under 30k, how BWM gonna sell 1-series? Will BMW be willing to price 1-series under 25k?

What's that old adage again? "Never buy first year models?" The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
Can't say I sympathize with anybody who thinks that their 2006 E90 might soon be made obsolete. It may well be (well, if you think a slight change in horsepower and badge makes a car what it is), but not on paper. If BMW uses 323/328 badges, it'll be for a reason: to keep early 325/330 buyers happy. Both of them can say that there's somebody underneath them, at least in terms of badging...though I myself don't understand the fuss behind badges and whatnot. First thing in the morning I'm calling my dealer and cancel the order of my 330i, because the 335i is coming!!!!!....But???...wait I also heard that BMW is going to make the 338i, but then I rather wait for the 341i after a couple more years.
C'mon guys just enjoy your cars whatever you have, the world is changing and improving every second.

This has been discussed for months on end. Anyone that was concerned and wanted to wait for a year and take a chance the new models were really worth the wait has had plenty of speculative information to make that decision on. Most folks that need a new car go out and get it when they need it. I would have gotten an E90 this past summer if my euro travels had not been cancelled. Now I wait until next summer/early fall.
I will be amazed if the bi-turbo 335 costs the same as the current 330. Looks more likely to be closer to the current E46 M3. That would be consistent with the pricing info that E90fleet provided for RSA. |

Hey Lux, did you go out to Beaverton to wash your car on Monday? I started to put it together after I left, I was the guy washing the black sapphire E90 like mad in front of you. Anyway, I talked to Brian, but keep that on the D/L. He really did show me a production schedule. I dunno why all these folks are so skeptical to believe what I wrote, must be denial. If I could've gotten a copy of the schedule I would have. I guess time will tell, but for those people with a flexible time table for buying their car, I would recommend waiting. After talking to my CA we figured that I will just be exiting my 3 year lease when the 335i will be at the end of it's 2nd full year of production. Which we agreed is perfect timing to trade up so I don't have to worry about all the possible gremlins in the first year model. So I won't be on this forum bitching about not being able to play MP3's or not getting comfort access and not being able to add it, USE A BLEEDING SEARCH to find that out instead of asking questions that clutter things up (that wasn't directed at you Lux, just peopel too lazy to search). Anyway, I've said my peace.

Those who bought the first model year R230 have not only the old SOHC V8, but the 5 speed tranny. The 7G (which makes a pretty big difference in acceleration past 60 mph) came into use as early as the 2004 model year. The fact that I have the same badge isn't doing much for my ego...again, I don't care much for badges and status symbols for the sake of status symbols. As I found out, the 325i wasn't actually that much of an improvement over the 323i...in some ways it was a step down. BMW decreased the steering effort considerably, ruining what I felt was the car's best trait. They also dropped the stiff, responsive electro-mechanical throttle for an early generation DBW system, which (as we all know) had somewhat flaky behavior and had very little pedal feel. On top of this, the 325 was absolutely no faster than the 323 it replaced. I'm more than willing to bet that - worst case scenario - the 328 would be only as fast as your own car, and probably still slower. The similarly priced 335 will undoubtedly be a lot faster, but that's just the price you pay for being an early adopter. Quote:

I am actually in similar situation as you. I thought about transferring the finance payments and trade the e90 in for M roadster when it comes out later this year, but I want to wait now. Only time will tell. -sean ps: we should do a photoshoot when weather gets better in few months. Black and White is the best combo!
