The second one is likely equipped with the optional smokers kit.

"Why can't we see pictures of non-Idrive cars?"

+1, especially want to see the console without the iDrive knob.

I agree the taupe/beige is boring, but it's for me. Don't like dark interiors. Two-tone doors would be nice, i agree, but the large dark handle gives some contrast.

Don't see a switch for back window. They are fixed?

I do NOT like handbrakes. Unless you're drifting, why do people want those ugly, clumsy things cluttering up their consoles?!!

They sure must be proud of that START button, to put it where they did.

Why is the tach needle vibrating so wildly? That can't be good.

I feel the same way, neither of those cars are going to be able to compare to the 1er....Go BMW, wipe out the competition!

I'm sorry, but the taupe looks cheap, aka Ford or Chevy.

Yea, it looks like I'm going to have to spring for the Terra leather now. The Taupe would be nice with the contrasting black panels, but with everything one color, it's pretty cheap looking.

The taupe looks like it would be at home in a Town Car or a big Lexus... It's way too milky and screams 'retirement age'. Sorry, couldn't do it...

That cloth red interior is the cat's ass. Can't believe they aren't bringing it here. That would SO be my first choice...

Thanks for posting the picks...

Well handbrakes are needed for those who know how to drive stick, they could always put the pull looking type e-brake near that hood release like you find on trucks or the pedal e-brake is another option

Where else do you want the start button? On steering wheel? who cares where it is...shit give me the covered flick on switch like you find in race cars, planes, etc but that would not look right in this BMW

I'm taking a guess they took that picture while they revved the engine so that is why the tach needle looks like that

handbrakes and sticks

Quote:

I didn't mean to insult anybody. Lots of people like handbrakes, I assume, or they wouldn't build so many cars that way. I just have long wondered why people like them, and thought this forum might be a good place to find out.

Are you saying you need to be able to operate the clutch and brake at the same time? Why?

My 135i will have a clutch, or I'll buy something else.

Actually, that's one of my biggest concerns. Every BMW shifter I've tried has had an unpleasant "feel". No "snick-snick", that's for sure! Why should Honda, Mazda, etc. be able to do this so much better than BMW? Anyway, I'm trying not to think about it. With luck, the LA Auto Show will have a stick there for us to try.

(Apologies in advance to all who love BMW shifter feel. I've never lived with one, only test-driven. So, I hope you are right!!!)

I'm assuming the comment was meant to speak to launching off the line, so you don't have to keep your foot on the brake. Also, the handbrake is traditionally used when trying to get your car in gear while stopped on a hill...In the case of the 1, this is a non issue, as the car automatically stops roll back, so no handbrake required.

Are you telling me you live in SF and never used an E-brake when parking. I personally don't like to leave my transmission in drive when parked unless i absolutely have to i.e. very steep hills and then you just turn the wheels to the curb.

E-brake = Parking

I suppose some may like to use it while driving **cough**cough** the Fast and the Furious crowd but not me.

Sure, I always use the parking brake, but foot-operated works fine for that.

I use regular brake to stop rolling backward on SF hills. Yes, that was scary the first few times with a stick, but I don't think about it anymore. Yes, hand-operated would be better if using the e-brake for that. But, having the handbrake always in your way is a big price to pay for not learning to "heal and toe", imho.

Anyway, thanks to both of you. It's good to know.

The German configurator lists it as Stoff-/Lederkombination Pearlpoint Orange/Scwarz
(So... that's cloth/leather combination pearlpoint orange/black)
