OEM Mud Flaps Yay or Nay?
If all goes well, I'll be picking up my new 135is Le Mans on Boston black this Friday and I intend on doing everything possible to keep the car's exterior in good shape. That means new car prep, Opticoat, and clear bra (bumpers, headlight, mirrors, partial hood & fenders). But what's everyone's thoughts on the OEM mud flaps?
I'm most worried about the rocker panels but I wonder if they'll take away from the car's beautiful lines. Maybe LMB is dark enough where it won't be so noticeable? Last edited by 3002 tii; 11-16-2013 at 10:37 PM.. |

Had them (space gray) on for a few months. Ultimately decided against the look, even though they offer more protection. Might be different on LMB. The DIY on here with an AW looks great though.
One alternative: Pull off your brand new side skirts and put on tii side skirts (which should have come stock on 135is IMHO). You'll then have a pristine set of stock side skirts in the garage to fall back on. |

Mud flaps? Sure if you plan on going off roading in the woods searching for gators.

No off-roading but tri-state road conditions are pretty terrible especially during winter time. Add to that my 70 mile round trip commute thought it might be worth it. But all good, you guys have convinced me to not bother!

I'd say no for now, play it by ear come winter and if you start to notice a bunch of crap, you can always just put them on later, whereas you might not want to do it the other way around depending on how they mount.

Yes, paint was chipping and peeling pretty bad on the lips of the fenders/bumper/skirts before I installed Rally Armor flaps last week.
On a side note I may be the only 135i owner in the world with Rally Armor flaps on my car. |

The OEM splash guards are cheap. Less than $50 for all 4. They install with plastic push pins. You don't have to drill anything. Don't like them, take them off. I personally like the protection they provide. On the 09 vette the factory guards actually finish off the look of the wheel well and improve the look of the car. Quite a feat. But the 135i is my winter, people carrying car and I don't think they look that bad. And on a dark color car they would almost disappear.

Religious war on this topic. i went for them for the protection. Tradeoff of looks vs protection. You need to make the call.

Have the splash guards on my JB 135 - the amount of splash they cut out is remarkable. My car stays much cleaner for much longer. Moreover, I think they actually enhance the squatty look from the rear (with +15 mm spacers on stock rims).

I spent many years in Calgary so I understand what you are saying about winter conditions.
BUT, they are still ugly.....

The pics were helpful in that I can see how well they blend in with Le Mans but I hope the oem ones look better than those

The ones on the white one are the OEM ones. I wonder also if anybody has considered painting them to match the body color and if that would look better/worse or defeat the entire purpose.
