3k miles. 2nd hpfp replacement

Had my first fail at 900 miles. The replacement lasted about 2k miles and gave out right at the 3k mark. I really hope this is the last time!

It is nuts that some have multiple failures within 2-3K miles and others don't have any. There has to be something else that causes the hpfp to fail; some cars have it and other cars don't. Mine was built on my wife's birthday. Is this good or bad? I know this is not funny to those with multiple hpfp failures.

Yeah, the car was running perfect then shut it off for a couple of hours. Started it up, the ses light came on and it was running terrible. Not so bad once you got going but from a stop in first gear it was hard to keep it going. On the first failure it ran perfect, just got the ses light. At least its a very fast fix, i think they are getting alot of practice replacing them!

email terry at BMS about what the SA told you and he should have an answer for you as to why it showed them it was modified even though you took it off. You may of had a manipulation code for some reason. Yet another reason for people to invest the extra 120 bucks in the BT tool when ordering a tuner. Cheap insurance against this type of issue.

I was told by a bmw tech that I autocross with that the pumps fail due to the corrosion of the internals caused by gas additives. I live in San Diego, like the original poster, but I didn't have to replace yet at 20K miles. I do have long starts though. I will replace it soon. I think it's strange as well how some have issues and others do not. I use Shell Vpower 91 octane EVERY time. How about other people? Could it be the gas?
