Placement of Under Hood Emblems & Labels for 135is

I am the owner of a 135is with Build #234. I purchased it in Nov 2020. I've researched the placement of the emblems & labels associated with the BMW Power Pack that was installed at the Port of Entry. My car had none of these items when I bought it. Of late, there have been some discussions about this on BaT and I wanted to share what I have found out. I do understand that this is certainly in the details but this is something that I enjoy.

Below are the part numbers for the items that are needed:

51-14-2-160-474: BMW Performance Kit emblem

71-22-8-662-868: Aluminum Screw Replacement Label; this is a different part number than the one that is likely in your car currently. It was different on mine.

01-29-2-160-476: Engine Control Unit Label. For this you will need the Production Date and the 5-digit code for the Delivery Dealer. The Delivery Dealer can be found on the window sticker if you have it. Your local BMW dealer can get you it's associated 5-digit identifier.

71-22-7-598-859: High Pressure Fuel Label (Yellow in the picture). This label may need to be removed and replaced with a new one on the valve cover. On mine there wasn't enough room for this label and for the Engine Control Unit Label. NOTE: these 2 labels are on the valve cover and once the top cover is put back on, they will no longer be visible.

All of these are still available from BMW; 3 of them were in the local warehouse with the 3rd item coming from Germany. Total for all 4 was about $75.

I'm including 1 attachment and 2 pictures for reference:

1) page from the BMW Installation Instructions for the Power Kit that describes and shows where to affix the emblem and labels

2) picture of the placement of the Power Kit emblem and the new Aluminum Screw Replacement Label on my car

3) picture of the Engine Control Unit label and the High-Pressure Fuel label on my car

I hope that others find this information helpful. I enjoyed hunting down these details. And thanks to Chris at BMW of Catonsville for his help in gathering this information with me.

When our cars have reached the collector status of original 426 Hemi's or Shelby Mustangs or whatever have you, these will be important details. Thanks for the post!

Thanks, this is good to know that the dealer put the badging on the wrong places with my car. It also makes sense why my aluminum badge that was stuck on the engine beauty cover came delaminated because of the heat. Looks like it should have been on the intake all along.

51-14-2-160-474 is expensive on its own. A 50 dollar aluminum sticker?

Also, where is the correct label location for the big "Attention" decal that addresses spark plug replacement?

51-42-2-160-474; I paid $40 for that part. It's more of an emblem than a sticker but agree it's more than I would've expected.

As for the spark plug replacement sticker, the pdf file attached to this post has the following:

"Cars built before 3/09 only
Clean the surface to be glued.
Stick service sticker "I" on cylinder head cover (1)."

Since all 135is' were built after that date, it's doesn't state where to put it. I chose to put it on the underside of the hood at the front edge to the right of the hood latch as you're looking from the front of the car (Driver's side). Looks fine there imo

fotontom: It's anyone's guess if these will become collector cars and if these kinds of details will ever matter. That being said, I wanted to get these items now because at some point they will be NLA. When that occurs, who knows what someone might want to sell one of those BMW Performance Kit emblems for?!?!?!? $40 or $50 might seem like a "bargain" then. LOL

Well, a nice 128 M-Sport went for $22K over the weekend. Who knows what a well-presented and documented 135i will be going for? Some have sold for as much as $32K, recently.

fotontom: As many know in this forum, the 1 Series has quite the following. And as is the case with many cars, those that are well maintained and presented will command a higher selling price should the owner decide to part with it. And given that there are aspects/features of the 1 Series that are not to be found in BMW's lineup, and many other manufactures, cars like the 1 Series and others will be sought after by the discriminating buyer. In the meantime, let's enjoy them!!!
