One last time, please. Correct Fluids are....?
I've read all the threads as my dealership seems to have put the wrong fluids in (83-22-1-467-993 Bulk Diff and 83-22-0-406-941 bulk trans) and now I'd like one, short correct answer.
It seems like on the Diff we should have: Castrol SAF-XJ-FM, SAE 75w140 GL5, P/N 83-22-2-282-583 1.2 litres and on Trans we should have: BMW P/N 83-22-2-167-666 (or in bulk 83-22-2-180-697), MTF-Lt-5 Do these look correct to everyone? |

huh?
Why not? If the dealership has the correct fluids and is willing to do it free of charge(like mine did), I don't see why you wouldn't change it. After all, BMW AG states it is recommended for the 1200mile run-in.

My dealer did not have it. Honestly - I went to a large dealer, there are not enough of the 1M's around for them to be totally familiar with the requirements hence lots of confusion and many people getting wrong trans fluids - just get involved with specifically what fluids will be going into your car and you will be fine. |

Just had my 1200m service done on Monday. Looks like they used the correct engine and rear fluids. But they said they didn't have the trans fluid but would order it and replace when it came in. I told them I didn't think it was supposed to be replaced but they said yes, so who am I to argue right?

I was looking for agreement! My dealer told me my "Key sheet" called for all three (oil, Trans and diff). Gen manager also told me that trans recommendation had been changed by BMW from first to third service because there was a shortage of MTF 5. I bet that made some engineers crazy! Diff was no problem but hoping to get trans fluid overnighted.

Yes your numbers are correct. However, the MTF-LT-5 fluid isn't available to order at the present time in the US. This is copied from a June BMW Service Bulletin: This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI B00 01 10 dated May 2011. designates changes to this revision 1 Series M Coupe: The rear axle differential is equipped with the Variable M differential lock, shared with the M3. For this reason it requires the same differential fluid changes as the M3, starting with the 1,200 Mile Service. The manual transmission fluid does not need to be changed at the 1,200 Mile Service (CBS service counter number 1). Manual transmission fluid replacement is required and connected to other specific engine oil services. For example, manual transmission fluid replacement is required when performing the “CBS service counter number 3 and 6” engine oil services. The chart below now references these changes. M Mobility system: Check the expiration date on the sealant bottle at each Vehicle Check Manual transmission fluid MTFLT- 5 (20L - 83 22 2 167 666; 1L - 83 22 2 156 969) This info taken from a ZF document: According to spare part number of vehicle manufacturer: - Pentosin FFL-3 => BMW Oil No. 8322 2167 666 (MTF-LT-5)

++++++1 Too many long and winding answers that seem to never come to the definative answer. Can't someone PLEASE get the official BMW answer once and for all and make it a sticky? |

+1000. Seriously. Scans of the service bulletins and pictures/part numbers of the correct fluids in a sticky. I'll try to put it together tonight but no guarantee on the sticky.
On another note, what maintenance intervals are the overly cautious owners among us planning to follow? Oil change every 5k no matter what? How about after an HPDE? I've never waited for a service light in any car... |

I had mine done, the dealer tired to use the wrong fluid, I had to search through a bunch of old posts on my iPhone to find the right service bulletin. A sticky really would have been nice, even if it goes away in three months.

remember the correct tranny fluid number depends on how they are packaged for the dealer (bulk, 5L, 1L, etc). Here are correct numbers they used for LT-5 on my car (depended on size of container)
83-22-2-239-655 83-22-2-239-654 (1 L size) Just more numbers to remember! |

Which dealer in the Bay Area did you use? Which fluid did they get wrong? Did you do the transmission fluid change or did you pay to have it done? How quickly did it require the run-in service? My service due light has come on at only about 815 miles on the car. By the way, I was the one who ordered the AW 1M (only heated seats) from Modesto Valley BMW. They said it was the only one they got and I ordered it in July. I hope you are enjoying yours!

Took mine in today, got everything confirmed before and after service. Transmission fluid also was not currently available because of UPS import issue. Fluid should be available in a month or so.
