Haven't noticed it as much in the BMW, but my '03 Passat did it pretty loudly. Always wondered what it was. I also noted that it only made the noise once if you opened the door several times over a short period.

I have heard this sound as well.....
though not when locking or unlocking the car. It seems that when I go to open the trunk with the remote, unless I hold down the trunk button on the remote, I get the "swooshclik" sound first. Then after I hit the trunk remote button a second time, the trunk opens. If I just hold the button down, both of these things happen one after the other. |

It sounds like my refridgerator when I get water through the door dispenser. Whenever i open any of the doors or the trunk, it's like a pshhhhhhh. And yes I have had plenty of cars with power everything, if it's the solenoid it different then any one I have ever heard.

Btw. itīs not limited to diesels or VWīs. My E46 SMG would fire up the electric hydraulics pump of the SMG the moment I unlocked the car with the remote. The SMG system needed to be pressurized to move the clutch so the car could be started. So to minimize waiting time the first pressuring was coupled to unlocking the car. Again a very good idea. On the SMG the high pitched whine of the pump was so loud, some people were seriously irritated when I unlocked my car. |

When I get into my car, I hear the steering wheel unlock. It's most likely the comfort access registering I have the key, and hence getting the car ready to start... I haven't heard any other noises...but I will keep an ear open for them :-)
Loving my car tho...woo000t |

In mine it sounds like it is coming from somewhere under the dash near the instrument cluster. Sounds sort of like a baffle moving in the air handling system to me.

Most seatbelts also have a fold sewn into the webbing which unfolds when a certain amount of force is applied to the seatbelt! This helps prevent your body from decelerating too quickly in an accident! Sorry for being a bit but kinda interesting and important!
