1 That is entirely the point of the 1M. M3 shows its dominance on one type of road course, while the 1M complements the BMW M lineup by dominating short, winding tracks. Why would they make 2 cars that share the same strengths? That contradicts any reasonable marketing strategy. Different cars, different strengths, different demographics. Ever wonder why the Cayman is deliberately underpowered in comparison to the 911?

the nurburgring times are all we need to know which is the more "capable" car, because at the end of the day, thats all we really are buying - capabilities.

Where's the M5 M6 X5M and X6M? I mean we're trying to show that the 1M is the fastest drag ///M car right? These 0-60/100 races are dumb. They're not muscle cars.

It is Dutch alright............. Straight line speed, Autobahn speed if you like, the M3 will be the better car, more HP, >wheelbase therfore more comfort.....smoother ride in generall On the otherhand, if you like twisty roads, more nimbleness, much more agile overall driving fun, there can be only one, 1M that is..............with the monster torque at low RPM it will also be faster on these roads. After the E46 M3 and my current E92 M3 (The black one in the video), the 1M is comming next weekend, I`m realy looking forward to it....... If I`ll feel like >7K RPM I`ll take the S1000RR for a ride.......that will do the job just fine...... All great cars, that is all what I have to say.......... |

And enjoy that 1M! If they were still being built in 2014 (my next purchase date) I would buy one. But alas, it looks like I'm stuck with the F32. Maybe by 2014 BMW NA will at least let me paint it Valencia Orange??!! haha |

the 1M surprised me, not bad at all,
but a few more seconds of road and I'm sure the M3 would have surpassed the 1M fairly easy.. Both great cars none the less

The photographer drove an E46 M3, but he went home before we could finish the video. But we also thought we had enough cars; 4 cars in a few minutes is pretty much already.
We were thinking of other cars, like the 135i (because people are saying an 1M is just a 135i with some extra power), 130i (because it used to be the best choice), Audi RS3 (obvious) or a Renault Megane RS (faster on the Nürburgring). But again, it would be too much. Anyway, comparing the E46 with the 1M wouldn't make a difference. Our favourites were the 1M and the Z4, because they are light and have the best handling. An E46 is heavier, but I would prefer it over an E92 (too heavy and comfy). |

Wow, there is a lot of anger on this thread
I didn't post the video to cause arguments, but rather to show a good comparison of the M cars. I simply do not get all of the M3 drivers getting annoyed and agitated at the 1M owners and visa versa. They are totally different cars and built for different purposes. I drove both an e92 M3 and a 1M a few weeks ago back to back and personally I preferred the 1M. Why? Well I've always picked smaller, more nimble cars (I currently have a Lotus Exige) and through the country lanes, the 1M for me was more fun to drive. I preferred it's turn in and handling, whereas the M3 (for me!) felt a bit too large. Now that's not to say that M3 is a bad car. Far from it, I liked it, but it wasn't for me. Which is faster? Does it matter? Do I care about "Ring" times? No, not at all. All I want is something that is unique, rare, interesting to drive and has great performance. For the sorts of roads I drive the car in the UK, they are mainly country lanes and B Roads. However in America, I can see that something like the M3 might appeal more as the majority of your roads are straight compared to ours here in the UK which are more twisty (obviously depends where you live in the US). Anyway, I think both cars are great but like I say, it depends on what you want. If you want something really quick in a straight line, buy a new M5! However, I don't see M5 drivers rubbishing the M3 saying it's slow and rubbish. Again they are different cars! |

I think your meaning this thread http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=565998 but you have done a good job breaking up the usual 'hostility' you usually see whenever 1M & M3 are referenced in the same thread You should have dropped in for a run and a gym session mate, that's what my morning was made up of lol |
