Brake shudder

Ive tried bedding in the brakes, no luck, maybe its my technique. i did 8 or 9 80ish to 20ish hardish runs, then parked the car for about 20 minutes (no parking brake).

I have DS2500's, ATE superblue, Ti shims, SS lines and E46 M3 CSL rotors.

any advice? should i try bedding them in again? It also pulls left a tiny bit when i brake. If i brake a little, or i engage abs, its just a tiny little pull to the left.

well after you bed them in and do the stop you have to make sure you drive the car for at least 20 minutes with trying not to touch the brakes. Doing the harsh stopping and then just parking will have the pads resting right above the metal and that spot will cool differently than the rest of the exposed rotor and the material will deposit differently leading to the shudder.

My $.02 as to how fix this issue would be to remove the rotors and hit them with some sand paper to clean up the deposits, then go re-bed them and keep driving around. After 5-6 hard slow downs you should be good to go.

As far as teh pulling left or right, make sure your new brackets are still tight. Generally pull when braking hard can be attributed to only a few things. Air in the lines, which to fix you should bleed them again. Irregularities in the road surface, generally public roads will have these. Or a bad alignment.

thanks for the quick reply. what grit should i hit them with? Just enough to scuff them up, or enough to take all the pad material off the rotor?

I'll check the torque on the caliper bracket bolts, and all the suspension bolts this weekend.

You're going to want to use something fairly aggressive to try and get as much of the deposits out. Doesn't have to be every bit of it out, but the more the better.

If you have race pads, a day or two street driving with them would clean off the deposits. --most race pads, like Hawk or PFC, not ceramic compounds
