Anyways, to the OP...I think you need a driver mod.
You still have the funky N51 SULEV gas tank and other assorted BS.

In an ideal world, at zero cost, which would you rather have?

Considering I'm building for SCCA STX regardless, I would not enjoy a N52.

Cannot do a mainifold swap in STX as well, not to mention N52s do not have secondary cats. Meaning I'd have to install cats in aftermarket headers which does not allow a simply header replacement.

I still want to find a way to get rid of the secondary cats....they just bug me

that and perhaps the aFe headers (manifold)...then I don't necessarily have to rely on evolve's special tune for emissions

Supersprint makes Secondary delete pipes if you must.

Alternatives is to use a custom used 135i midpipe like the n55 made to fit

AFE only makes for e90 328i 330i

http://www.schmiedmann.com/ Might have a solution for midpipes of a 128i/125i. They make a header already, so its likely.

EDIT:

Middle silencer Schmiedmann
Product number: SCM818730MP

Maybe one can modify this w- Sport exhaust stainless steel Simons complete
Product number: 035-HADR
http://www.schmiedmann.com/en/bmw-e8...oduct=035-HADR

Hopefully they will make this kit for n52::Schmiedmann high flow Sport manifold M52/M54 inclusive 200cell sport catalysts
Product number: SCM5254

Has anyone actually emissions tested the AFE headers yet?

I am willing to try them, but not at their current price. Also, why does the aFe website say that these are "race only" headers if they are working catalytic converters?

Probably because legally you can't remove factory CATs in most states, regardless if you replace them. Also lets them off the hook if you don't pass emissions with them, as after all, they were "race only".

I believe it's actually a federal law that you cannot tamper with emissions equipment on road cars.

Whatever that means..

Yup. In many/most states, you can only replace emissions related equipment with other CARB approved equipment, which pretty much means only stock components since it seems like aftermarket companies never get their parts CARB approved (probably cost prohibitive?).
