Will the M2 be as rare and valuable as the 1M?
The 1M would have been an incredible buy at MSRP or even above when it first came out seeing as how they have held their value so well. Does anyone know if the M2 will be anywhere near as rare?

non-limited M cars seem to still hold their value pretty well, but it won't be like the 1M was. The 1M was instantly selling for huge markups and never really came back down. |

I think IEDEI is probably right, but that brings up a question. How many will they actually sell? We know they wont cap production, and BMW will certainly move more units than 740. But how many people are really interested in a car like this? Chances are it will be a fantastic car, but I think the answer to my question depends on how they price the thing. There will be some competition in the price range, not the least of which is the gt350!

I don't think production will be limited considering the timing of the launching of the M2 and the lifecycle of the current 2 series. is a relatively new model.
owning a 1M I just no longer see the point of buying a 4 seats sport car. I might have used the backseat 3 times in 3 years. I think this applies for the majority of 1M owners. leaving brand loyalty aside, I would definitely prefer to buy a cayman S as opposed to buy a M2. also the market value would be higher on the porsche than the M2. |

No it won't be rare. At least a 7 year run with slight model and option changes along the way. If they happen to release a limited Lightweight or other they would be Rare but don't count on it.

from Oz perspective, we were allocated 302 1Ms and resale values have plummeted over the last 12 months - circa 70% of new. If M2 sales are to reflect our slow adoption of the 2 series and pricing for M3/M4/M2 reflective of 3/4/2 series, M2s may well be rarer than 1Ms

Unfortunately for 1M owners, I think the M2 will fill the same niche, unlike the M3/4, and will cause a correction in the market price. i.e. 1M values will come down to a more reasonable value rather than the overinflated prices they are at now.
Don't get me wrong, the 1M is truly special, and a one-of-a-kind, but it won't hold value when the M2 comes out IF they do the M2 right (which would be to make it a raw street hooligan like the 1M, rather than just a smaller version of the overly refined M3/4). |

Honestly, there aren't any 1Ms to go around, those who missed the boat wants a new similar car at around the same price, the M2 is the answer. It will be price be an affordable entry level performance M car. 1M will still hold its market value because its still in demand.

Well, I kept the 1M, coming form a E46 M3 and an E92 M3, this is bij far the best Bimmer I`ve driven.
And bought a Cayman GTS too, just awesome. I`m just in love with both of them, an M2 is very tempting also, I have to arrange some extra parking space I guess |

The 1M is so rare that last week I took my car in for service and the GM came out and offer me to buy my car for himself and give me nice discount on a new M3
