30,000 mile service?

So everytime I start my car it gives me a warning I'm going to need a service in 2000 miles, 1900 miles and so on. My car has 28,100 miles on it and I'm leaving next Friday to drive from Hanover, PA to Florida for a week long vacation. It is a 1000 mile drive to get there plus all the driving I do down there and a 1000 mile drive back home. I know I'm going to go over the 1800 miles before I come back home. Is there anything in the 30,000 mile service that I should worry about before I go?

While the warranty/service manual is not at all clear on the 30,000 mile service, it appears to be simply a number of inspections and a road test, somewhat similar to the old "Inspection I" on previous BMW models - minus the oil & filter(s) changes. If I were you, I'd make an appointment with your dealer to have it done when you return from your trip and enjoy the drive south.

That's my understanding as well. I thought it was really sort of silly it couldn't all be done at the same time as the next oil change.

So you have to take the car in at 18k for the first oil change, then 30k for this service, then 36k for the next oil change, then 40k for the brake fluid flush, then you're out of warranty by the time the next oil change comes due.

The old Oil - Inspection I - Oil - Inspection II sequence was quite clear as the list of services was provided in the manual. Time based services were brake fluid & coolant changes and and the only mileage based (as opposed to "condition based") services came at 100K. Those of us who wanted early oil changes and/or transmission & FD gear oil changes simply had them done on our own dime. But either way, it was pretty easy to plan service visits.

BTW, is anyone being notified by their cars about state mandated inspections?

First time BMW owner...128i:2009,43k

Took it to have an inspection today to see where it stands on services, recommendations were:

Will need fuel injection
service 30k
rear diff service

im clear on the fuel injection but what does the 30k service entail? also what is the rear diff service?

Im hearing different things on oil changes....miles between?

Thanks in advance to the veteran BMW owners!

If you plan on keeping the car for a good bit of time, follow the Mike Miller "Old School" service plan found at the top of this section:
