330 AUX question

hi, did anyone try to play iPod with AUX input? Here is what I've realized, and I'm not sure if it's just my car or any of you guys having the same problem. When I plugged my iPod through AUX, only my left side of speakers are working. Any thoughts?

I had that happen to me once, and started freaking out thinking the right speakers had died. The problem was the jack was not connected in all the way, sending only the left channel to the logic7.

Maybe you're using a mono type mini jack cable. Stereo mini jack has 2 black lines encircling it.

I have the same problem. If I hold the plug to one side it will play OK. When I let go it cuts out. I have an appointment to check or replace the jack. I have been looking for a thread that may help me out, but I have been unable to find one. My dealer ordered the jack and will install it on the 14th. Does anyone know how to remove the jack if I decide to replace it myself? Can I pull it out from the top, or do I go in thru the hand brake cover?

You would probably have to go in through the bottom.

Are you sure it's not the cable? I would go out - and buy a new stereo cable before I started messing with the Jack.

It is a new cable, but I did turn the cable around and it still cut out at the jack.

yeah, I would also say try a premium cable, but the sound sucks through the aux input. It sounds like a casset tape being played. Nice thought by BMW, but if they really wanted to show off their willingness to be technologically advanced, then should have made a setup for an optical input so that we can listen to our music digitally in cd quality. My i River mp3 player has optical out, and love it when i hook it up to my home theatre system.

ipods don't have optical out, and if they spent the money putting an optical-in jack in the car, it would appeal to maybe 2% of people with digital music players.

Turing up AUX IN volume on the stereo and turing off EQ settings on IPOD, along with a monster cable setup has made a huge difference. It sounds 95% as good as a CD to me...

There is currently no Ipod integration kit for the e90.

Try doing a search to get ideas. Many of us like the Belkin.

Stratstrummer - even a Radio Shack will have these... Just a stereo mini to stereo mini, male to male. Plug one into your ipod headphone jack and the other into the aux input.

Hotsand5 - the audio quality should be excellent. Make sure you're not overdriving (or underdriving) the input. You can alter both the ipod volume (if you're using the headphone jack) and also the aux input level on the BMW side.

I use the headphone jack and get CD-quality sound.

FWIW, my friend tried his 5G iPod in my car with my Radio Shack cable and then with his Monster cable and they sounded EXACTLY the same. They both were produced CD-quality sound.

Frankly if you're not in a rush, eBay is the best place to get it. I paid $10 shipped to my house. IF it's used, it is usually okay as this is not a high tech part. Otherwise Circuit City should be a local retailer for you. Apple stores are hit and miss; last time I looked I couldn't find it.
