Run-flat puncture: Can I replace only fronts?

Hi, all.

A screw lodged into my front-left Dunlop RFT near the sidewall. I had a tech from Discount Tire look at it and he said it was too close to the sidewall to repair. I've got about 6700 miles on my car and am driving on the stock Dunlop RFTs.

I realize if I replace the front-left tire then I should also replace the front-right tire to keep even tread wear, but my question is this: what are the implications of running the Dunlop RFTs in the rear with 6700 miles on them but brand new 225/40R18 Potenza RE-11s in front? Should I replace all four tires instead?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I generally recommend replacing all 4 tires with Non RFT's since driving characteristics would be a night and day difference between the Dunlop RF's and the Bridgestone RE11's. Grip levels and sidewall stiffness on both tires will be unpredictable.

what he said. not just RFT vs. non-RFT, but those two tires have vastly different performance characteristics and capabilities. they'd probably be fine for rolling around town, but would almost certainly be weird if you try to have any fun.

Definitely, or even during bad weather conditions...
