Yea, lots of those here. A manual 3-er is by order only in most stealership. But I'm sure its like that everywhere in US. Manuals with only sports pkg. on the lot pretty much doesn't exist...

I work as a valet attendant as a summer job and you'd be surprised how many 335is are manuals. I'd say at least 30% of the ones that pull are sticks.

1.) It is suppose to start at less than 30k

2.) It is going to have 230hp, 200lb of torque.(A 2005 325i had 192hp)

3.) The weight will be around 31XX

4.) It will have the typical bmw attributes; DSC, 50/50 weight, etc.

Any thoughts or additions to the list?
5) It is cute and it has the BMW badge. Therefore a lot of female buyers may be interested. This will bring girls into our forum.

I'm actually not surprised by that percentage for the 335i. How about the 328i? How many of those are MTs?

I think some people are dreaming to think that the 135 will be ~$35,000. I suspect the 128 vs. 135 ratio will be simular that that of the 3 sedan... 4 : 1.

What I don't understand is why it won't have the same power as the 130i since it shares the same engine, 3.0 I6 with ~260hp / ~230 lb-ft in the 130 vs the 230hp / 200 lb-ft in the 128

A lot more 328s are ATs. The 335i seems to have really captured the enthusiast market.

Drillslinger...it's in the marketing. BMW wants to differentiate the 135i from the car beneath it for sales purposes. Selling a 130i would detract from 135i sales, hence the decision to dumbdown the motor so that if performance is your game, 135i is the name. They won't knowingly weaken their sales of the lucrative 135i by offerring something with 90% of the grunt and handling.
It sucks, but all of the European manufacturers do this, look at VAG with the TT lineup as a prime example.

We'll have to wait and see if Vishnu can come up with something. My bigger concern is whether the M pack for the 128i will include the bigger brakes or whether it will be all fluff, as BMW often does on lower models.

What UK mags are you reading. The only complaint that I have read in the UK mags is the ride is choppy on non-gravel roads. You must have been reading the Top Gear magazine, they notoriously bash BMW cars. The 1-er is a pretty hot car in Europe. Europeans are actually fond of smaller cars. The only thing that will hurt the 1-er in the States is it's price. BMW has to convince folks that it's a step up from cars like the MX-5 or the Solstice. Show me one source that bashes the 1 series product line and I'll give you two that love it.

With gas prices the way they are people are slowly turning to smaller cars. The 128 and 135 offer pretty exciting packages.

Thanks! That jives with what I was expecting. I would guess that the majority of the 128is would be AT, while there will be a higher percentage of MTs in the 135i.

Top Gear tends to have a love affair with the really high-end cars, so in that regard the 1er can definitely be seen as lacking. But despite any negative comments, the reality is that the 1er is BMW's top seller. Also, it's interesting that performance oriented BMW is selling a majority of diesels now. Hopefully this is the shape of things to come for the US.

It wouldn't surprise me if M pack is 135i only from the factory.
& M kit for the 128i will be a dealer install body kit from the parts bin.
