Wastegate rattle fix
Hey guys,
So.... My car has has the notorious rattle coming from the actuator arm and it's progressively gotten worse with the JB4 and kittyless DP's. I ordered a 4mm wrench to do the fix on my own but cannot get the 10mm nut that holds the arm in place lose. Do any of you guys know of someone or someplace I can pay to do this? |

I had the same problem forever. I couldn't get it to shut up. In an effort to get rid of the problem, I upgraded my JB4 to the ISO board (JB5). I messed around with the settings and it pretty much got rid of the rattle. The downside of trying to fix it this way is I have a lot more turbo lag. I am ok with this as long as the damn noise is gone. This is the only solution I have found over here. No way I am taking all of my mods off to take it to the dealer to attempt to get them to replace anything under warranty.

Thanks for the reply, I was looking into that as well but was timid due to the lag. Is it really noticeable compared to before you made the adjustment in the user interface?

Yeah its noticeable, not terrible, but its noticeable. Depends on how much you adjust it. Good part is that you can change it on the fly (option 10) so you can put it back to normal when you are driving on the autobahn and when you are driving around areas that you dont want it to be heard, you can adjust it.

That's what I said. Warning... If you have a blow off valve, it will not make any noise while you are driving and your wastegate fix adjustment on. You have to be above 4500 rpm to hear it at all. Not a big deal at all but just wanted to throw that in there.

I asked about it and they had no idea what I was talking about. One of you guys that have a good relationship with a SA might be able to answer that one. The guys here in Bitburg barely speak english so they might not have understood me.

Long story short........If you purchase the car (like I did) here in Germany through Military sales, you have the same 2 year warranty as the Europeans do. You can opt to purchase the other 2 years above that for a couple of hundred euros but that is about it. Your warranty from the states does not transfer to Germany.

I am not sure about any extended warranties that BMW has done for the HPFP class action law suit or the turbocharger warranty. Btw... does anyone have the BMW pdf on the HPFP recall/extended warranty for the USA? I only have the Canadian NA pdf.
