Scrape on bumper edge - repair help
Hi guys,
Someone scratch the edge of my car, on the edge of the bumper (see photos below). I was wondering if I would just be able to get an electric buffer with some wax to smooth it out or are there any other ways of fixing it (myself). Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, T. |

You're going to need to cut the clearcoat back somewhat in order to reduce the visibility of that scratch.
As long as it hasn't scratched down through the clearcoat entirely you should be able to do something about it yourself. Try Meguiar's Scratch X or something similar first followed by a gentle polish and then finally a wax. You should be able to hand apply this with a microfiber applicator pad. If the scratch is right through the clearcoat you're going to need some type of respray, either partial or the full bumper.

Looks like the scrapes gone through the clear in some areas. Probably any light buffing will only remove some of the dark spot left from whatever you rubbed your bumper against. Most likely you need a blend spray to completely fix. I wouldn't think it cost too much since your paint is not metallic.

I would not repaint for that scratch.. I doubt it's even visible to most people.
I'd wash, clay, and use Meguiar's Ultimate Compound. That should make it much much less visible and I'd be happy with that. Don't forget to wax the area after using Meg's UC. |

Try scratch X, and Ultimate Compound. Just be careful of the ultimate compound on a flexible plastic part such as a bumper be careful not to rub too hard you can wear some of the paint away. I used UC on a rock chip on a E36 3 series to clean the area exposed plastic on bumper from rock chip...and the UC made the chipped area much larger. I just painted the chip and wet sanded it (polish/wax) and the results were great.
If you don't want UC then just use Scratch X and follow up with Color RX (all in one paint cleaner, polish , wax ). Applied by hand of course. Take your time and use more than 1 microfiber cloth.
