The N54 was first used in the 630Ci (Europe) starting with the 2004 MY. 2 years prior to it going into the E90 for the 2006 MY.

Personally, I dont think they would offer 2 seperate models with only a 30/40 hp difference. I mean....its possible, but no other model has that small of a hp gap.

The current 3 series has a 70hp gap between the 2 models
The current 5 series has a 70 hp and a 60hp gap between the 3 models.
and
The current 7 series has a 78 hp gap between the 750 and 760.

I mean come on, it has to be this way in the 1 too, it doesnt make sense to close the hp gap in between models. At 230/300, this will give a nice hp split between the models and will give them some room to justify this 10,000 price gap i keep hearing about around here. 25k for a 128i...35k for a 135i.

Thats the way i can see it going.

However, if I can get ahold of a 135i with a 300hp engine for under 32,000, that would be a WINNER in my book anyday.

I'm aware that the N54 is the TT--that did not answer my question regardless.

Are there any sources that show this to be fact?

US Centers have been told by BMW NA that the135i has been confirmed. It is coming here.

The way I see it, the engine choices will probably be exactly the same as the current hatches offered in Europe, with the top model having 260hp. If they do bring an M1/M2, my guess is they will use the last generation M3 engine. Hopefully I'm proven wrong and we do get the 335's TT engine here in NA.

But...you must look into the past.

The 2006 E90 325i (215hp) vs. '06 E90 330i (255hp). Only a 40hp difference.

2001-2005 325i - 184 hp
2001-2005 330i - 225 hp

Only a 41hp difference

There has not been a large horsepower gap between the entry level 3-Series and the top of the line model (non-M) until the 335i (N54).

The only problem with the S54 going into a 1-Series is that it is a very expensive engine to produce. Honestly, I do not foresee BMW AG using it if a M version of the 1-Series is produced.

I am not trying to be argumentative, but I contacted my SA yesterday, and he would not confirm this info. Only that the car would be showing up in the spring. That's why I was hoping there was some sort of press release that I was unaware of confirming the 135....

Understand, but the majority of Client Advisors (CA) (SA= Service Advisor) have little clue as to upcoming products. In fact, my CA and the Sales Mgr have repeatedly stated that the their customers that frequent the internet know more than they do about upcoming products and or updates. My local Center has been told that the 135i coupe has been confirmed via their Regional Marketing Rep (BMW NA employee)

Again, I understand the distinction of CA vs. SA, but the SA at my dealership often knows as much as I do about the 3er, since he also belongs to the relevant forums as I do. I am not discounting what you are saying, I just have reservations about such info until it has been comfirmed on a medium more reliable than someone hearing from someone else.

I hope you are right.

I can not get into it any further without getting myself into trouble. We'll leave it at that.

Fair enough.

This should be a reality--so let's hope that BMW does the right thing....

It would be a little rocket if one was offered--which would probably be a great reason for me to jump to a 1 series instead of the 3, which keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger...

Don't get me wrong--I love my E92--its the best car I have ever had, hands down. But there are a lot of people besides myself over on E90post.com that think a return to BMW's roots (a small, light, nimble car) is exactly what some are looking for.

I just don't understand why I keep reading all this stuff about more detuning for the engines available in the 1 coupe...
^+100000000000
I couldn't agree more.
AND definitely a priority for a sporty coupe to be added to my garage.

They also offered a ZHP option with 235HP on the 330i & 330Ci models for the E46.
