If your installing it yourself, be prepared to cut and clamp the new one on.

That's my thread! Thank you for referencing it.

My exhaust has been on since fall, about eight months. It still brings smile, it really does sound cool. Well worth the investment. It positively growls as the revs climb over 4500 rpm, and yu'll want to drive through tunnels all the time!

As for the install, it was pretty straight forward. It is worth a couple of hours of your time to save a few hundred bucks. Butmif you are squeamish about cutting off the old exhaust, have a good shop or the dealer install it.

Just make sure you have a Sawsall to cut the old muffler off. I removed my old exhaust and put the new one on in less than 20 minutes in my driveway.

in the event you were to sell the car, and the new owner doesn't want the PE, could you re-install the stock exhaust without a modification? I would assume using the clamp provided with the PE? right?

I wasn't a big fan of a "clamp on" and had it welded. Never compared the sound with others but I love how it rumbles. Good luck!!

Does it come with a certificate and all?

It's an OEM part... don't know why it wouldn't be.

Just got the exhaust installed. The note is absolutely beautiful. A deep and subtle growl

Music to my ears. The car also feels more responsive (placebo?), and completes the tune.

Looking into an intake next (currently have scoops + filter + charcoal delete). Any suggestions?

Thanks to MikeinAlexandria for the PE exhaust DIY. I would have never considered doing this without the DIY. I just got done with this today on my non-msport 128i. It took me a few hours but it's very doable. The cut on the exhaust doesn't have to be super accurate (i was worried about this). Between the play in the rubber bushings and length of the sleeve there is room for error.

I also learned you have to get a bit aggressive with the left rubber bushing. It was really a matter or oriented myself under the car so i could best handle the exhaust and bushing at the same time.

Anyway, the sound is really nice. It's really not that aggressive, but much better than stock. I hope it doesn't dull with time, as I've read others have experienced.

The sound is sooo nice, I've gotten a lot of compliments on it so far.

BMW Performance is pricy, but they do it right.

. Hopefully you all bught this from getbmwparts.com! It is a fantastic deal from them.

It is California certified. From what folks in Germany told me last week, any performance part built and sold by BMW needs to be. Otherwise, Cali folks could buy parts in another state and sneak them in. California is so strict that they are driving the no-small-diesel policy for the Us that BMW has. The response was to builds new twin turbo 4 cylinder that as much horsepower, more torque, better fuel economy and reduced emissions. Now if we could convince BMw to bring over the 1 series three door. It is very cool, got to sit in a 120d at the Welt in Munich. Very smart little car!

Best thing I have installed to date. It will mellow after a month or so though so the initial growl will go a bit down. The intake will spice things back up and make it even louder

yeah i got it from Tischer (getbmwparts.com) as well, only $180 postage to Australia, total was less than a third of what I'd have to pay here!

By the way, installation wise, any exhaust and muffler place more than capable of installing the BMW PE and its not necessary to take the diffuser off for install.

$695 as I see it from Tischer. Do they give CCA or other discounts?

So has anyone figured out the issue with the Vibration absorber/damper?

It doesnt come with one fitted, but as it has the same slot as the stock muffler are we to just re-install the stock absorber? Or should we leave it off?

I notice that the stock vibration absorber/damper is at 32hz, same as the 135i. The Z4 3.0si which uses the same engine has a vibration absorber/damper at 83hz and a 123d uses 28hz. Would using a different absorber help reduce some of the drone? They are pretty cheap so I might get some a try them out.
