Female 1er owners

I've been reading through threads for weeks now trying to get a feel for what I want to order this summer, and I've notice there is a lack of female 1er owners here. Maybe it's just in the threads. How many woman out there have a 1, and what made you want to get it?

My wife is the principal driver of the 135 Convert. She loves it. The grandkids beg her to put the top down.

We have quite a few out there. I've actually seen more women than men driving a 1er out on the road. For whatever reason, men are more likely to be on the forums finding out info and shooting the breeze.

Psh I've even seen women driving M3s, if it really is their car though then there damn well is nothing better than seeing a woman driving one.

There are a few on this forum but as BForbes said, men are just more likely to come to this forum. If you do a search there was an old thread from last year where the ladies did a roll call.

As for on the street. Of the people I see on the street with 1'ers I would say I've seen 60% men and 40% women.

My sweet wife (45 yrs) has a '09 128 AT. My 135 Manual should arrive in the next 2 weeks--less I hope. Oh, this may be the second time I have a car that cost more than hers. She has advised me that may not last long. Nick

I assume you mean me?

There are a bunch of us 1er women. But maybe not so many as there used to be here on 1Addicts.

I think the tone of the forums changed a bit when we merged with Bimmerpost and I don't follow as much in the main forums as a result. It used to be that the moderators jumped on inappropriate things before I had a chance to. I was really impressed by that. But now I have to point it out. A couple of times I've called people out on things and while I was generally supported, the main offenders mostly apologized for my being offended, not really for what was inappropriate about their post. While not quite so extreme as this example, it was akin to saying "I'm sorry you don't like to be slapped in the face" instead of "I'm really sorry, you're right, I shouldn't be slapping people in the face". I've got a pretty thick skin, I'm an engineer so I'm used to working in predominantly male environments, and I talk fouler than some of them. The tone here can still be uncomfortable at times.

Anyway, while I haven't left entirely, I stick more to the regional forums where I know many of the people (having met them at various meets and social outings). I suspect that's the case for a number of other women. I don't see Rachel post much in the general areas, but she's our main ring leader in New England. Her car is waaay more kick-ass than mine too.

Wht'a surprise. Most M3s are driven by females in California. The same is for M6.

I see tons of female 1 drivers every day in downtown Toronto. Way more than men. Sadly, few seem to notice me when I honk and grin that creepy smile.

I am a female and drive a 135i. The few 1 series I've seen on the road are being driven by dudes. I don't think they are on the forums (or 1er obsessed) as they don't acknowledge another 1 series as I drive by them.

I don't post very much because I really don't know what to say. I just read posts that are interesting to me, that's about it.

Believe it or not, I have seen exactly one other 1'er on the road since I got mine last July and I live in a city of over one million population! I have seen far more Porsche's and even Ferrari's than our cars!

Hey Storm, dont be shy! Having the ladies chime in goes towards having a nice balance. We all hardly agree with each other anyway. The great thing is that we share great enthusiasm for the same machine.

I encourage all lurkers/members to not be turned-off. Just hit the Report button or send a PM. Izzo and myself will take care of whatever personally. A lot of moderation goes on behind the scenes to keep this place up. Comparing us to others isnt helpful. It is impossible for us to catch everything that goes on here. Give us a helping hand!

I don't believe there's a lack of us female 1 owners, but like everyone else said they don't go on the forum much or even know about it.

I didn't choose to get a 1, but rather the dealership royally screwed up my e92 M order and I needed a car to drive within the 7 months that they screwed around with my order - so their 'way of making it up to me' was to give me a considerably low monthly lease payment... regardless- I didn't think I would enjoy the car the way that I have. This past year I've put 14k miles on the 1 and only 1,900 on the M. Don't get me wrong, I love the M but I prefer the 1 as a daily driver. I think the best part of the 1 series is the versatility - 128 coupe, 128 vert, 135 coupe, 135 vert and all reasonably priced. If I didn't already have the M, I would buy the performance 1 after my lease was up. It's a smooth, sexy and quick car. Good luck with your decision this summer

My GF will be the one with 1 series. Her BWM 135i convertible should get here next week. She's very excited to go from her 328i to something with more go. I'm still torn on the BWM/Taupe/Taupe, but she's in love with it.

Speaking of people who visit the forums, I've noticed that many people tend to have a technical background in engineering or IT, etc. and also like to work on/mod their cars. I work in IT myself as well. I've noticed this on other car forums such as Bimmerfest, NASIOC, and the old Honda/Acura board I read years ago.

I imagine some of these technically inclined and/or interested people end up discovering the forums while researching their cars on the web while the average owner may not.
