You can run a stage 2 map with your set up sport or aggresive

Hey guys. Just tried to install my AP on my 2012 135i and got the same message as above as to not recognized rom. Knowing roms 96A0B and 9780B are not supported,
how do you find out what rom is installed? Where does it show up?
If the DME or rom is to be updated, is this the same as the normal software update BMW comes up with every now and then? Thanks in advance!

Hi, you will have to email/contact COBB with your ROM... they will set up the maps for your car. I also had to do this on my 07 335i last year.

Cheers

That does not really answer the question. How do you know what ROM you have? I am wondering this as well.

Just got my hands on a V2 and was wondering about the following:

1. How do I determine what ROM I have (without actually downloading a map)?

2. How long does it take the car to adapt before it runs at it's optimum? Is it a specific number of miles or minutes or hours (or something else)?

3. Is there a way of checking that the current map has been saved successfully? My car has already been mapped and I would like to confirm that I can return my car to this map when I sell the car on.

Thanks

As I see it the problem is they really don’t have much incentive to do major overhauls, so the tiny stuff is going to languish. The OTS pump maps do their jobs (IMO they’re just place holders until you get more octane), and the E30/race maps are pretty strong for stock turbos. Anything more aggressive than that and you’d get some moron targeting 13 deg of advance with 91 pump go and melt a piston, then complain that Cobb broke his car. All the maps are stable, safe, and appropriately conservative for all conditions. So at this point we’re talking relatively minor things (LC, AT timing recovery, etc). Those are the type of things that will get back burnered for other/major projects. Not saying it makes me happy, but there you have it.

Not that I am really complaining but Cobb promised to add LC or flat foot it was really long time ago they were working on it and nothing happened since then. Oh yea V3 showed up.
P.S. subie guys have those features.

I don’t disagree with ya bud…was just trying to explain why these features haven’t been built out yet. It is frustrating, for sure. Subie and Mazda probably provide the bulk of revenue for Cobb, the N54 market is somewhat niche for them…though one would think if they have the time to test, develop, and bring to market some pretty quality hardware; they could cook up some timing flatline fix for us. Yea…pretty lame.

At the very minimum they need to post a Stage 2+ for the N55, Stupid that I have to run 1+ with a check engine light due to no cat, or run stage 2 with less power than 1+

Well I plugged the unit in today, identified the ECU and all ready to go... Not quite. The unit told me that I have a previous map is already loaded and it would not be able to save it. So... what do I do now? I don't want to loose it as I do want to return it to this map when I sell the car on.

What I did was to start the install procedure once you plug it in to the car. There are a few steps you need to do before you actually get to select and install a map. One of the steps shows you the ROM you have and at this point you can make a note of it and just cancel out, back to the main menu.

I then went on to the Cobb website and downloaded the maps relevant to my ROM and used their software on my laptop to then transfer them across to the Cobb unit.

Cobb AP3 support for the N55?

Did not want to open another thread ....

How are you guys finding the Cobb AP3 support for the N55? Ive been thinking about pulling the trigger since it was released a few weeks ago. I keep hearing that N54 support is not Cobb's biggest focus, and N55 support is even worse.

I have a stock 6-speed manual 2011 135i/N55 with an early April 2010 release date. My car has just received the latest DME software update 3 weeks ago. I have no engine/drivetrain bolt-ons at this point, and car is still under warranty.

I take the car to the track for 2-3 20-minute sessions on a weekly basis, and could use a little more punch. Im getting M3 front control arms and camber plates put in tomorrow, to gain a little more negative camber, reduce understeer, and save my front tires.

So, any bad experiences (lack of support, engine malfunctions codes, flash issues, etc) with Cobb + N55 manual cars out there?

Thanks.

This thread is entirely too long causing it to be greatly ineffective... IMO

the software itself is AMAZING, smooth and drives like stock.. just with loads more power. We are just bitching about little things that are available on other models of vehicles that COBB has the accessport for.

Bad news for us 2012 135i owners...E-mailed Cobb Tuning asking when they will release an AP for the 2012's. This was there response;

"Hello,

We are currently working on development for the later year n55s but it is unclear whether we will actual release support for these cars. If it does happen, it would most likely not be until sometime next year.

Thank you,
Kyle"

So it seems like a 50/50 chance they will release a AP for the 12's. Talked to Cobb employee at Cobb Tuning Socal, told me that the 12's have an unbreakable ECU code .

That doesn't sound right.
Didn't DINAN release an upgrade for the 12's?

DINAN works directly with BMW, so they would be able to tweak maps as if they were BMW themselves
