RB Turbo 135i knocks on the door of 400rwkW

Hey Gents,

here is a dyno graph from a FBO RB Turbo car with upgraded turbo inlets, running an E50 blend + Methanol injection (50/50) with a JB4 G5 iso tune and a custom Trebila Performance E85 backend flash.

FYI,

there is power left on the table, as a misfire issue is preventing the engine from revving beyond the 6,400rpm'ish mark. Once sorted the boost curve can be made more linear and I suspect peak power will occur around 6,500+rpm.

The car has a Fuel-It Stage 3 LPFP installed in preparation for a Vargas Double Barrel Shotgun kit, which in combination will allow us to run 100% E85. :-)

However for those guys not wanting to achieve maximum horsepower figures, a Fuel-It Stage 2 LPFP upgrade will be sufficient (providing your HPFP is healthy) if you stick to an E50 blend with use of the E85 backend flash for appropriate adjustment of the fuel scalar tables.

Cheers,

Justin.

P.S. for those guys that are interested in the use of a custom E85 specific backend flash, I cannot say enough good things about the professionalism and knowledge of David Trebila.

P.P.S. feel free to PM or email me at justin_dean75@yahoo.com.au regarding hardware specifics and pricing on all of the above.

Exciting stuff! Care to share where/how we can find more details about David Trebila custom flashes?

Nice solid result.
Sure there isnt a JB4 in there? I thought Trebila only provided flashes for JB4 users.
Are there any logs of the runs?

Looking at the boost reference he must be hitting the limits of the stock TMAP. Time for the N20 TMAP. Also was this auto or manual? Just trying to figure out the rather drastic change in boost at (i assume) around 4.5k rpm

Gents, Justin has been project managing the mods and build for me for the last few months and I can't speak more highly of his knowledge, passion, attention to detail and personal involvement he has put into the car so far. There's no doubt we wouldn't be where we are at without him.

We are in some respects in uncharted territory with the build and the car has maintained all of the drivability and can be docile and brutal when you choose it to be.

Watch this space for lots more to come as Justin helps navigate the project to where we envisage it can get to.

If any of you are looking for someone to help you with your build drop him a line.

Looking forward to seeing what the next round of mods deliver

I too can testify to the knowledge, support, passion, personal attention and time graciously provided by Justin (JD75).

He is a fellow enthusiast who has traveled the difficult road of bleeding edge modification with his own car so is sympathetic to those that want more from their N54/55 platforms, thoroughly researching the plethora of product available and providing valuable advice.

He has sourced parts from the US through his suppliers at prices that wouldn't be possible if I had sourced them direct. Like Forced_downunder these will be used to finalize my long modification journey that will see 400rwkw plus also.

Looking forward to the next improvements from your car Forced_downunder.

Look forward to breaking through that goal 400kw with my car and seeing yours do it too mate. Justin has a few more things to come for this build which I'm very excited about.

Hoping we can resolve the misfire soon and see where we end up as that power curve says there's more for the taking.

His flashes are specifically for E85 tuned cars, a minimum blend of E50 is required. Please shoot me a PM for further info.

Cheers,

Justin.

As per the original post the car has a JB4 G5 iso tune.

I have a ton of logs as I routinely check the raw timing values across all 6 cylinders, AFR on both banks, LPFP & HPFP psi numbers, Meth flow, IAT, wastegate duty cycle etc via the JB4 tuning interface after every pull before further increasing the boost target.

There is already a N20 3.5bar TMAP sensor installed.

The car is a 6 speed MT and the "drastic change" in boost is partly due to the fact the car already smokes the tyres in 3rd gear at 19psi, so a midrange torque bomb does nothing more than stress the bottom end of the engine. Also as we were unable to rev the engine beyond 6,500rpm due to the persistent misfire I wanted to increase boost more rapidly than I would otherwise prefer, to achieve a reasonable dyno result (lol) before pulling out of the run to avoid the misfire.

Once the misfire is sorted I will still limit boost through the midrange, but the boost target will be a more gradual curve to redline unless the observed dutycycle of the RB's dictates otherwise.

Thanks,

JD.

P.S. the boost target curve is actually quite a bit smoother than the observed curve but this is JB4 boost control, not PROcede Rev3 V5 (lol).

Does anyone know how I would go about posting a .csv datalog file of the posted dyno graph?

Thanks,

JD.

That curve is as smooth as butter. The upgraded turbo inlets must be the real deal. 400rkw is epic for a 1500kg street car.

Looking forward to the Motiv clutch and the Vargus Double Barrel HPFP so we can run 100% E85.

Hey guys,

thank you kindly for all the positive comments and feedback, I apologise for not posting sooner but I've been pretty flat out providing consultation and hardware to 4 or 5 other customers that also have some pretty serious builds happening.

The MOTIV twin-plate clutch or more precisely the single mass flywheel should sort out the cylinder 6 misfire we were constantly experiencing on Greg's car around 6,250rpm.

Once the engine can rev to redline and with the use of 100% E85 I foresee a peak power point of around 6,500rpm with something in the vicinity of 410-415rwkW, perhaps a bit more but we shall see.

In lieu of the excellent Trebila Performance flash we have loaded to the DME we now have a flat 12:1 AFR trace across the entire rev range, this will allow us to increase the boost target in the lower to mid rpm range to safely flatten out the boost curve where the engine is most susceptible to knock at peak torque.

Once running straight E85 via the VTT Double Barrel Shotgun HPFP upgrade kit and Fuel-It Stage 3 LPFP, we'll probably go back to the more widely accepted AFR target of 12.5:1. Admittedly 12:1 or high 11's is a bit on the rich side, but given we are pushing the envelope on an Aus N54 whilst using E50 Peter and I would rather err on the side of caution, as 400rwkW is still a fuck ton of power in anyone's books, haha.

Thanks,

JD.
