can you scratch the paint with a car cover?

Hey,

i'll be travelling for about 2 weeks right after I get my baby, and I am planning on buying a cheap wal-mart style car cover for my car, just because my underground parkade is just wayyy too dusty these days, or in general.

I don't want to come back and find my car under an inch of clay... you know what I mean.
I am also being paranoid about just leaving it there for 2 weeks... but with the car cover, it will draw even more attention. That said, there's a black 328xi just across from where I park so...

anyhow, am I at risk of making a mess of the paint when I get back?
note that my baby will be black sapphire... and the car cover will be cheap (bmw charges wayyy too much)

shouldn't, if you wash your car beforehand and unless your cover is already dirty. Of course if you get sand paper cover then yes...

No, please no. Not with a cheap cover under ANY circumstances. Even a perfectly clean car, and a brand new high-quality cover with a soft, fleecy lining will cause you tears.

Bought a car cover(wal-mart) for my brand new 2004 Acura RSX-TypeS and used it once. It's still in a box in the garage. The damn thing made my car dustier than hell. Use a California duster. I've had bitchin' results, and get a second one to dust in the house. Just AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the advice guys
it will just draw more attention with a cover on
I'll let it get dirty and will wash it as soon as I get back, it will be like therapy and getting to know each other and catching up time for both of us anyways.

My Dad used a car cover on his BMW. He bought a really expensive one from BMW and it never put any scratches on his dark coloured car (and he is very very picky about his car's paint!). However, he always kept his car very clean before covering it up. I'm sure you could eaily scratch it if you were not careful.

I've had mine covered with Noah for the last week, on and off, on and off, no scratches in the beautiful and sensitive JB.
