Ok this is an argument I have seen on my other board about four years ago. ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY in America is it taboo to put the "M" badge on a M-sport version of a bimmer. I lived in Germany for about 11 of the last 15 years...the home of bimmer mind you...even part of a Car club called BMW_Syndikat... www.bmw-syndikat.de (i am Reddevil) and they often badge bimmers with the M-sport package with an "M" badge (no number after the M because that is what shows the "engine" is from M). There is a video floating around of an 135i with the complete performance package and it has the M badge....guess where the video is from? Hint: It is not from America. Only us Americans are snobbish enough to think that putting a little badge that denote you having an M-sport version of a vehicle makes you posing??! My former car (1999 5er M-sport) came with that badge on the trunk lid....straight from a German BMW dealership....nuff said....

Remember the M535is or the M635is that were sold in America?
They didn't have M engines.
2009 M135is? Maybe, who knows...
I will probably debadge just so some deviant will not screw up my car trying to rip it off.

.....but German porn IS pretty horrible. They dont have any good actresses or even really good looking ones because they work at the legal brothels making enough money to buy M3's and 135i's...

But the thing about the M-badging IS true....my old 5er looked just like an M5 minus the wheels, quad-exhaust, and a couple of other small differences. But to the Germans it was considered an M-sport version and deserving of an M emblem-no number, that would be sacreligious, although you will see idiots at the car shows with them on their bimmers. It used to drive me and other members of my club crazy.

Man, you guys are harsh. BMW is selling the 135 as a baby M, not a baby bimmer. BMW gave it an M inspired front end, M steering wheel, and a M badged stick shift. Some of the earlier information that BMW released referenced the 135’s M connection. BMW wants people to think of the 135 as a poor man’s M.

Before the flames begin, I know the 135 is NOT an M. I am just saying that the 135 will bring a bunch of evo, sti, g37,z350, and other mid-range sports car owners to the BMW brand. This group are all potential M customers as they upgrade their cars. The 135 is a gateway drug to the M cars.

It’s a baby M. if someone wants to badge in //M sport, who cares. The 135 holds up nicely to the older Ms so let the kiddies be.

As for me i don't badge anything, I'm more likely to remove badging than add. Why advertise? I'm not getting paid for it.

I am interested if anyone was aware of this, and can confirm validity into this. It kinda relates to "badging". I had read a while back that BMW was contemplating refining the naming convention. All 2 door cars (with or without hatch) would be even number and 4 door would be odd number. This was supposed to begin with E90/91 keeping the 3 series designation and E92/93 would be christened 4 series. With that in mind the E87 would be the 1 Series whilst the E81/82/88 would be christened the 2 Series. That would have been great for as an advertising tie-in between the E82 as the spiritual successor to the 2002. The N54 in the E82 could have been badged M2. This would have also tied into the rest of the range with the 4-door 5 and 7 Series (maybe long wheelbase 7 becoming 9 Series) and the 2-door 6 Series and possible future resurrection of the 8 Series name. Also, the Z lineup would fit with the even number (two door) designation with possible additions of miata fighter in a Z2. The odd number (four door) X lineup would have only recently been mucked up by the X6. The reason I heard why this plan wasn't implemented is they were afraid to separate Coupe from the "3" brand. That customers would be too stupid to understand that a 4 would "essentially" be a 3 coupe, similar to the 5 and 6 series relationship.

It is your car, you do what ever you want. Why people would like to impose their value system on to the others? Personally, I don't understand why people bother to de-badge, but I don't vote against it; same goes to M badging.
