If I remember right. People were having luck with skinny 245s. Something like Yoko s drives. This was a few years ago so I don't know how a lot of current tires will fit.

Everyone will say this isnt going to work, but i'm pretty close without a fender roll (yet). I know the rear offset is unimaginable. But i had a sweet deal on the wheels and if it doesnt work they will go on my E92 and i'll start over
Wheels: E46 M3 Front: 8.5x18 et47 Rear: 9.5x18 et 26 Suspension: Stock with alignment by Imola Motorsports -0.75 degree camber front -0.50 degree camber rear 0 toe-in Tires: Bridgestone Potenzas RE960 AS pole Position front: 225/45 - perfect fit, no rubbing under any conditions up to 2 occupants (have not tried more than 2 people in car) rear: 255/40 - no rubbing on flat driving and slow curves, major rubbing on bumps and hard cornering. less rubbing with driver only (no passengers) the tires are rubbing on the inside lip of the fender and catching the very corner of the shoulder of the tire. I beleive that a fender roll and shorter rubber will clear as there is only one part of the lip that is catching. The part of the fender that is rubbing is bent back now, you can only see it from the inside. but its bent a very small amount, which tells me that a full fender roll would allow them to clear. to be safe i plan to do the roll and use a 255/35. Ive posted some pics. I'll update next week when the new rubber is fitted. I have some 255/35 Michelin PSS comming for the rears. I will mount them this weekend and do another test.

Question though...have you tried putting more negative camber in the rear? That would help the rubbing a lot...Also...Perhaps changing the tire to 255/30 in the rear would help too I'd imagine? |

After measuring a 255/40 and a 255/35 I found that i'll get an additional 3/4" clearance between the tire and inside of fender. then rolling the fender should help even more.
I don't want to get too crazy on rear wheel negative camber as i am going for funciton over form. I want them to look good, yes, but i'm looking for more rubber to hit the road off the line. I'm afraid that negative camber on the rears, which would increase rear wheel grip in cornering would exacerbate the mid-turn understeer that the 135s are known for. as soon as they are fitting properly i'll update! Hell, if it all goes wrong i'll update so no one else has to learn the lessons.

After cutting out fender lip and going to a 255/40 i have given up. I'm sure everyone is saying no shit dummy!
Rubbing on the 9.5" rears with et 29 offsets was minimal, but rubbing the top of the tread and the shoulder. if I had a passenger it would definately be worse. so, if everyone was not doing this because of the obvious offset issue, now you know for sure. fender lip is gone and i ran shorter rubber. NO DICE back to the drawing board. say, anyone want to trade wheels?

What does "pulling" mean? When i search it seems like everyone uses the terms pulling and rolling interchangeably. I cut the lips off, but before doing so I had wedged a phone book between tire and fender and lowered wheel down onto some wood slabs, trying to reshape the fender enough to gain some space. I can't really tell if it did anything. I should have taken some measurements. camber on rears is -0.4" over whatever they are stock. According to my invoice form Imola motorsports. But it was not set with these wheels in mind. I had the camber/ alignment set up (a year ago) based on what i was looking to achieve with handling.

I think i need more than 8" in the rear to run the 255 PSS. I think 8.5" is as narrow as i can go with a 255? maybe im wrong.

So what's the general consensus for a no rub setup on VMRs? Currently have stock suspension, possibly pulling the trigger on BMW performance suspension sometime soon. Looking at VMR 710 18x8.5 front 18x9.5 rear. Any input on tire size/offset would be greatly appreciated.

I think guys are running ET49 up front and ET 52+ in the rears on 8.5/9.5 set up. I've seen up to ET62 on the rear but i think that was a 10" wheel

I sure it's very slight rubbing but only when I'm travelling four up with luggage in the back. Doesn't happen when two up. I've had a look but can't see anything, even had the wheels off. I have a standard ride height, maybe a 5mm drop at the front. Couldn't tell you for sure but an inch drop looks be possible, but don't sue me. :-)

currently running 225/35 19s on 19x8.5 with 42mm offsets
Looking to see if i can run 245/30's? also I am planning on rolling the front fenders to make room. The car is lowered 1.3 in. Looks like the only tires in that size would be Yokohama s drives. Worried about burning through those super quick since they are not asymmetrical tread make for high camber. the reason i ask is I am looking to run wider tires to get rid of the rim lip poking out past the tire. Read through everything and I couldn't tell if anyone hack any luck. |

34-38mm offset advice
Hi,
I just read this entire post and could use some advice. I found a good deal on these wheels: Front 18x8, 34mm offset Rear 18x8.5, 38mm offset I have a 2010 128i. My primary goal is to get rid of run flats, and I'm taking this opportunity to upgrade to 18s. No one on this thread said they have the exact same size. I guess I'll need spacers to make up for the offsets... is that correct? Will that compromise safety, e.g. braking at all? Will they rub? I suppose that depends on the tire size, so if you have any recommendations please let me know. I haven't bought the wheels or tires yet. I have stock suspension and I don't want to modify the fenders, etc. Thanks! |
