DCT Stalled, dealership blamed it on exhaust?

Here is the situation;

I have a 2012 BMW 135i. Engine is 100% stock, only "performance" mod is a custom quad catback exhaust. Bought the car brand new, currently has 14k miles. Car is equipped with 7spd DCT. A couple days ago, my car stalled when i was trying to park the car. No warning light came on after it stalled, and my car started up right away after that.

The quad setup i have on my car burned a hole into the "charcoal oil canister can" and caused a "check engine soon" light to come on. I took my car into service to check out why my car stalled.

Left my car at the dealership for 2 days. Received a call today from the tech saying; "We cannot work on the car because of the quad exhaust burned a hole into the charcoal oil canister can, which is causing a "check engine soon light" error, and we can't clear the codes thus not being able to check why the car stalled. Your car probably stalled because of the custom exhaust system, and you will have to fix the charcoal oil canister can first if you want us to check why the DCT stalled. It will cost $1,000 to fix".

Now i call BS on that. An exhaust has nothing to do with a transmission stalling or not. I think they are just trying to get me to spend $1,000. Any thoughts / comments on this ?

More than likely it is BS! That's why I chose to install PPK on mine to avoid BS like this.

You need a better dealer. Don't give in.

Garage List
Go fix the oil canister can and then bring it in if it stalls again. Simple.

Not taking the dealers side but maybe they are saying they can't fix or scan to fix the dct until they can clear the ses code which the oil canister is causing an to clear that code the oil canister has to be fixed?

That "hole" in your cocc is causing a vacuum leak. So yes... you first need to fix that before you dealer can figure out what else is wrong.

Aren't you worried about your car smelling like gasoline?

You could try fixing the melted hose by either patching in a new section or rubber hose or maybe some other "shade tree" method/repair. Of course using all new BMW is the best solution.

Not BS, unfortunately for you. Occasionally dealerships do tell the truth. ;]
