Anyone Tip their CA ?
I'm going to visit my CA before Christmas and express my gratitude. Through the process, he did exactly what he said, held the car for me on my word before receiving a deposit, sold me the only car the dealership received for the year at MSRP. I'm going to visit him and thank him $$. Anyone else express their gratitude to the CA ?

I took mine to a very nice restaurant for lunch. He got me a ///M Design Center tour on ED and was excellent at organizing everything...so yes, I did something for my CA.

You don't tip commission based services - that is his 'tip'.
Who don't you tip now?? The only tips I give are to food services because there salary is crap based on the fact its assumed they will get tips. |

Similar thought actually. My CA put up with a lot of extra crap from me, did a lot of extra stuff and did so without question, stories or BS. Maybe not a tip (cash) but I had considered recognizing the effort, extra effort, that was put forward. Not sure what that would be yet. I had considered a small bottle of Pyrat rum. Its $15 and more symbolic than anything else. Even if he doesn't drink it, it's a conversation piece or something.

First thing that came to mind! So Dan, does society deem this tip worthy?

It is my understanding that most BMW salesmen make $300 per sale. Let me repeat that for you guys paying $55,000+ for a car. They, the guys that sell on the floor, say in New Jersey, earn $300 per sale. Think about that.

Interesting points.................I do feel as though he was not just doing his job, he went above and beyond. I just feel like there seem to be so few people today that actually do what they say they will do - that I really appreciate that effort. Maybe I (and society) have just been more accustomed to accepting poor service as the norm and when somebody actually does their job we are over appreciative?

I've been wondering about this myself. I have no idea what your average CA makes on an annual basis, but I'm guessing it might be about as much as the price of the 1M (not including benefits). Given the long drawn out affair this whole transaction has turned into, I think a little recognition for the effort is reasonable.
I like the idea of a small memento like a bottle of Pyrat. Any other ideas along these lines? |

No tip but I did bring back a small gift for him from my ED, both times.

Only in the USA would someone even think of that, the country where it is allowed to pay some types of job so little that people have to rely on tips to actually make enough to live on. Probably only in the US and in some third world countries. So what if he makes only $300 on a sale of a $50K+ car, the shame is in the fact that he is being paid so little, not in the fact that you are buying from him something that costs so much more than that. I say if you want to make a gesture for him, go talk to his boss or write a letter to his boss commending him for doing such a good job and telling him that in your view he deserves get a raise, promotion or a bonus. And if you want to be nice to the guy, get him a little something thoughtful: bottle of Pyrat or something else, souvenir from your ED trip, take him out to lunch, etc... all those much better ideas IMHO. </slightly_off_topic> |

Ok so the idea of a bottle of pyrat is growing on me for the work he did in finding the car for me.
Is it available at most liquor stores? I've never looked for it before. |

It is widely available. The best is the one imported from Patron (IMO). It might be a good idea to make sure he isn't a recovering alcoholic first.

Don't tip him but make sure you give him a good wrap to his boss or someone that counts, and make sure he knows about it. Also he might get offended by what you consider a 'reasonable tip'.
