Yeah Ed, still a great shot.

I always get a regret when I see military aircraft pix and slightly regret that I didn't accept the Navy's invitation to fly with them, back in 1969. I did the right thing career-wise, since I was a CPA and also had a very strong job offer in the "real world". Still, the thought of strapping on a jet and putting the pedal to the metal reins supreme as a potential experience missed.

Nice gull.

I've been so busy with eagles and kestrel that I forgot about a ring-billed gull shot that I wanted to get up.

Thanks Dave. The Fuji just makes really nice files for conversion.

Great Kestrel. They are so hard to get close to before they bolt.

The ring-billed gull shot that I mentioned wasn't up to snuff, so here's another eagle:

Another blast from the past...January of 1999 in the SoCal desert, a C-17 blasting off of a dry lake-bed.

When they landed, that dust had to be a huge problem.

Some really great shots posted by you all recently, I'm struggling to keep up !
In fact I've been struggling to get out in the last few days, the weather has been so awful, cold, wet and windy.
It brightened up a little this afternoon, so I took a walk down to our East Beach.
Here's a shot taken at the end of the footridge over the River Lossie, leading onto the beach.

Same with choppers. Actually worse with choppers since it would blind the pilots as they were trying to land. Usually some poor sap had to stand out in front of the bird and guide it down. That person got blasted by the dust.

Cool shot, Ed. I'd have been hiding my camera from the dust after the plane went by, though.

Old days.I probably used a pocket 35mm for that shot and would have shoved it in my cargo pocket and turned around so I didn't choke to death

Landing wasn't bad there, as the runway is actually pretty long, so we didn't use reverse thrust, and just let the jet slow down on it's own. Takeoffs had to be spread out though as the dust clouds would envelope the populated part of Fort Irwin and brown out the place

This was the third or fourth pass of his annual qualification run. I had a couple tries to set the exposure in order to capture the rotor blur, but also freeze the drop.

I was set up at about two thirds from the end of a 100' drop line and he was moving about 20-30 knots, which meant that it was a milisecond between the transition from balls of steel to holy shit run!

Love the contrast between the sky and the beach Alan. Very dramatic.
