Dinan camber plate noise
Just drove the car around the block for the first time since adding the Dinan camber plates and I'm getting some rather disconcerting clunking sounds from the front end when I go over speed bumps, especially if I'm not 100% straight on with the speed bump.
I'm 98% sure I properly tightened everything I undid (sway arm links, strut tower nuts, allen bolts that attach the plates to the strut top plates). I'm about to wash the car but will verify everything afterwards. Is some additional noise normal? I thought the Dinan plates were supposed to keep things the same as OEM. Not opposed to noise but want to be sure I didn't fuck something up. |

Dinan plates shouldn't increase NVH at all seeing as there are no moving parts. When you removed the sway bar links, did you have to use heat to get the nuts loose? I would disconnect one end of each link and drive the car. This eliminates the links as a possible cause of noise. You can also check the sway bar bushing for excessive play while the links are disconnected.
Also make sure you properly tightened the top mount damper nuts, as well as the three nuts for each mount to the body (approx 15 ft lbs - do a search for exact torque value). Another check is the proper torque of the control arms at ride height. If you loosened the control arms, they need to be torqued at ride height. I usually use a floor jack on the rotor until the car starts to lift off the jack stand and then torque to spec. To note, these bolts are supposed to be one time use.

Yep it was a loose sway bar end link. I forgot to counter hold it, and because I tightened it with my cordless impact, it seemed to tighten up but wasn't actually fully tight. If I had used hand tools and verified torque values like I should have, it probably wouldn't have happened. Lesson learned.
It's now totally silent. Thanks! |
